Kimiora Retreat is a respite for people suffering from suicide, sexual domestic violence to take 'time out' to heal on the Whanganui River.
Manawatu / Whanganui
Kimiora is a Maori word that means ‘to find a way to wellbeing’. Trustees of Kimiora Trust, Kiritahi and Brian Firmin gifted a 5 acre block to create a respite for people affected by suicide, sexual violence and domestic violence because of the increasing numbers of families affected, and the startling fact that there is very little holistic support for them.
Both Kiritahi and Brian decided to gift this block provide a place for anyone to come and recuperate that is safe, warm, non judgemental and healing at no cost to them.
Kimiora Wellness Respite provides
- Access to professional support and counselling.
- Short stays in a beautiful space next to the
Whanganui River.
- On-site orchards and fresh vegetable gardens.
This project is lead by a strong team of dedicated lay people who support and volunteer their time with Kimiora Trust. A Project Coordinator has been appointed and a team of Trustees to oversea the management of this project.
We are trained suicide prevention facilitators travelling the country sharing our Kimiora program to communities at no cost.
Funds raised will help:
1. Build the retreat meeting house
2. Purchase materials to maintain the retreat area
3. Purchase trees and materials for the retreat orchard
