Reconstruction of the former Coronet Peak Cresta Run at the Naseby Adventure Park in Maniototo, Central Otago.
Otago
The Naseby Summer Luge Trust was settled by Erna and Tonnie Spijkerbosch who along with David and Jenny Proctor acquired the former Coronet Peak Cresta Run and gifted it to the people of Naseby on the proviso that it will be installed and operated in Naseby for the benefit of the Naseby community. We hope to have the track completed for the summer of 2018/19.
This project is endorsed by Naseby Vision, a community development group that works closely with the Central Otago District Council, the Maniototo Community Board and numerous local and national groups and companies to improve services and facilities in Naseby and to promote Naseby in general.
The total cost of reconstructing the track in the Naseby Adventure Park alongside the Ice Luge is estimated at $150,000. There is considerable local support for the project and like the Ice Rink, Curling Rink and Ice Luge previously, significant donated goods and services, including volunteer labour, will be provided to deliver the project. Donated goods, services and volunteer labour is estimated at $50,000 and so around $100,000 of cash is required in order to undertake the project. This will primarily be used to purchase materials required for reconstruction, earthworks and landscaping.
We are now fundraising and so far have secured $30,000 from the Otago Community Trust and a pledge from another trust for up to $15,000. Our next target is Lotteries but we need to have secured further funding before we can apply to them and will endeavour to do this via Give a Little crowd funding.
If you live and/or recreate in the Maniototo, have fond memories of the Coronet Peak Cresta Run, want your family to experience more great activities in Naseby’s or just want to see Naseby and the Maniototo continue to develop please support us by pledging a donation on our Give a Little page (Note - pledges will not be called on until we have raised sufficient funds to undertake the reconstruction). As we are a registered charitable trust donations of $5 or more will be eligible for a donation tax credit from the IRD and a receipt will be provided to facilitate this.
"My wife and I live in the North Island but have been coming to Naseby since the early 2000s because of our love for the ice sports (skating, luge and curling). Over this time we have helped the Naseby Adventure Park develop into a unique facility offering one-of-a-kind experiences. I am a volunteer trustee of the Naseby Summer Luge Trust. I believe that this additional recreational facility will benefit those living in the area by providing another recreational opportunity, new jobs and other economic benefits."
