ZAHRA LARI DOCUMENTARY

THIS IS A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT ZAHRA LARI, THE FIRST EVER COVERED FIGURE SKATER TO BE TRIPLE AXEL-ING HER WAY TO REPRESENTING HER COUNTRY, THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, AT THE 2018 WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES IN SOUTH KOREA. SHE DREAMS BIG.

Zahra's management have given me a window to film in the first week of February. And heck! That's not too far away. Any support you may be able to offer the making of this project would be GREATLY appreciated!

All that Zahra has achieved in such a short period of time is mind blowing.

That she only began figure skating at the age of 11 (late in comparison to other figure skaters), and hopes to now compete in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea, is phenomenal. I love that she is on the cusp of achieving something great, and that by doing what she loves to do, she is making world history.

Considering the geographic landscape Zahra grew up in (Abu Dhabi) it is a pretty exceptional notion that she chose to pursue figure skating. The fact that she operates in a terrain of polar opposites – the heat of the desert and the chill of the ice – is an asset to our story. There is no doubt this film will be visually stuning and courageous. Zahra’s point of difference in the figure skating world is that she competes wearing her hijab. I’m excited to pair her articulate and focussed nature with the glitzy manoeuvres she wheels out on the ice, and ultimately learn more about her journey.

Let’s celebrate her talent, her values, and all the “firsts” that she has set herself as goals. It will thrill audiences everywhere to learn about her fascinating pursuit and the tremendous obstacles she’s had to overcome along the way.

Zahra’s story is inspiring and endlessly relevant to other young women around the world. As per her own words, she truly is an ambassador for her sport, her religion and her sex.

Who Zahra is, is precisely the story I would like to tell.
