New Lynn Women's Institute was established in 1929. These hard working women have been donating their spare time to help to other charities throughout Auckland, New Zealand and overseas.
I was listening to my Grandmother, who is the leader of the NLWI; she mentioned that some of the ladies are finding it harder and harder getting to the shops to buy wool, tissues, stickers and jellies for their current projects. I decided to reach out on the Titirangi, Green Bay, New Lynn and Glen Eden community Facebook pages asking for any wool donations. I was surprised by the response, not everyone could donate wool but were happy to donate some money to their cause. So now I am reaching out to New Zealand to help the NLWI continue to create their beautiful creations to help our fellow New Zealanders in need.
NLWI make beanies, booties and jackets for the newborn babies who are born at Waitakere Hospital, fingerless mittens and slippers for the Kidney patients across Auckland, queen size blankets for the elderly in retirement homes and villages throughout West Auckland, Fish and Chip jumpers for the children in need, teddies for the St John Ambulances for the scared children who need to go to hospital and so much more. Their other projects this year are collecting tissues and stickers for Special Needs Schools in New Lynn and they also supply the Auckland Mission or local churches with a Christmas hamper for the homeless and families in need at Christmas. As well as presents for the children at Christmas such as toys/books/clothes for the Kmart Christmas trees.
The NLWI are all donating towards these great causes and charities out of their own pensions and as I mentioned before a few of them are finding it hard to get to the shops. We would love your support to continue their donations.
I am the social media organiser as most of the members in NLWI do not have access to a computer.
