Thanks to everyone for their support.
Looking forward to seeing the km tally for the whole challenge on Monday.
Today's lunchtime excursion was a walk to Tucker Beach along the Shotover river. The Old Shotover Bridge (originally built in 1871) can be seen in the background. It's been great to take colleagues on walks to tracks they have never explored. So fortunate to live and work with these beautiful areas so close.
Great lunchtime walk today with nature cheering up the grey clouds.
Dave added to his km by going into Skippers Creek with the Wakatipu Tramping Club in the weekend. This included New Zealand's first (and most remote) Hydro Electric power plant at Bullendale.
Getting the kms up by exploring Frankton including the Marina. thanks everyone for your support and donations so far.
Check out the lovely sunrise Charlotte captured this morning on her morning walk at Homestead Bay, Jack's Point, Queenstown.
It was wonderful to have Jules Tapper from the Lakes District Air Rescue Trust visit this morning and enlighten us regarding the great work the rescue teams do.
- The team work very hard with over 660 local rescues a year. They are so busy a second $14 million helicopter and crew have been added.
- Many of the rescues aren't just accidents or outdoor pursuits gone wrong but maternity transfers and lifesaving missions after medical events. (There is no maternity hospital in Queenstown).
- Technology of the helicopters has improved greatly. Accuracy is high and allows the teams to deliver patients even in cold conditions. They have specific low flying flight paths when the freezing temperatures are low.
-LDART is NOT fully government funded. Donations assist with specialist equipment purchases, training for our difficult alpine environment and maintenance. Lights are needed at the helipad for landing after all their night missions!
1st of March sees the start of our challenge. A few of us in the office got outdoors and walked across a historic bridge and then along the lovely Kelvin Peninsula track taking in the lake and views. A new track for some, an old favourite for others and a chance to enjoy fresh air.
