Thank You to everyone who has supported us over the past month. It is very much appreciated!
5,933km's and $1,380 later, the 50KM a day challenge for March has been a blast!
Through the generosity of each of you, your friends, family and clients, through both time and resources, we have helped support an essential service in our communities and I think we all can be very proud. Across the country we have raised over $69,000 for our amazing helicopter trusts!
The Tron Troopers team have been kayaking, climbing, hiking, running, cycling, playing rugby, swinging the cricket bat, badminton, swimming, and everything in between. Throughout the month we’ve taken our friends and family out for that extra walk to explore somewhere new and create memories that will last forever. If you think back to our main goals, these were to have some fun, get moving, and to raise money for our local Helicopter trusts, and when we reflect over these, we’ve far exceeded our goals!
Let’s keep some of those good habits up for the rest of the year and by 2024 we will be ready to continue and build upon this amazing work!
The end of March marks the end of the 50KM challenge and the beginning of our new chapter in our new Hamilton Office on Hood Street. If you are ever in Hamilton, don’t be a stranger, please come and say Hi!
Well done team and we will see you back next year in March 2024!
No donation is too small or big & funds often go to life saving equipment which can be the difference between life & death.
Please donate & support this life saving service, you never know when you or one of your loved ones may need this service.
The current overall tally for Tron Troopers is 3,129km and $1,020 raised for the Philips Search and Rescue Trust.
We were lucky to have the Balloons over Waikato this week which meant for some amazing views for our morning exercise. We had many calm mornings and sunny days for the majority of the week and was all topped off for many families with the Zuru Nightglow on Saturday.
It is about now when it the challenge starts to feel very real. We are three weeks in, and can see the end in sight, but the kilometres are becoming more of a challenge. At this point we have to reflect on how far we’ve come, and what we have achieved. Our team are working hard to continuing fundraising for the Philips Search and Rescue Trust and will have some more updates to share next week.
Bring on week 4!
2,000kms ticked over this week and over $980 fundraised too so well done everyone and thanks for donating too!
This week the Balloons arrived in Hamilton, we had beautiful days for exercising, and we continue to get out exercising in support of the Rescue helicopters. We were very fortunate to have the Rescue Helicopter Trusts visit many of our offices across the country, to provide insights on the day to day lives of the crew, paramedics, and pilots of our rescue helicopters. At almost $10,000 per rescue, the importance of our fundraising was made clear. Hearing some of our own team members share their personal stories of how their family members were still alive today only because of our rescue helicopters, really drove this message home in each of us. It really is a service that we don’t always think about until we need it most, and they are always there 24/7/365 to help us when we need them most.
Our team are working hard to continuing fundraising and will have some more updates to share next week.
Bring on week 3!
Awesome night at the annual Craigs Miniputt Challenge raising $7,800 for the WAIBOP Powerlifting Club.
Waikato Bay of Plenty Powerlifting (WBOP) is a part of the New Zealand powerlifting federation, the largest drug tested powerlifting federation which was formed in 1985. Powerlifting competition comprises lifts of the squat, bench press and deadlift. These lifts are typically performed in gyms throughout the country which means that most gym participants are familiar with the sport, and the sport is accessible to anyone of any age, gender, and ability.
WBOP currently has 63 members, 19 of which represented New Zealand at the powerlifting commonwealth games held in Auckland late 2022. A number of these lifters will go on to represent New Zealand in Malta at the world championships this year.
The club is growing thanks to an increasing number of junior lifters. The club holds an annual Secondary Schools competition, with promotion and encouragement at high schools throughout the year. The members – all of whom are volunteers – Set up and hosted the 2022 Special Olympics national summer games powerlifting.
Not a bad way to start the day after a morning of exercising along the Waikato River!
We were very lucky to have Catherine from the Philips Search and Rescue Trust visit us in our office.
Some of the key learnings were:
- Two Rescue helicopters in Hamilton which are rescue ready 24/7, 365 days of the year
- Last year over 890 rescues were completed in the Waikato at an average cost of $9,500 per mission
- They are always airborne within 10 minutes of receiving the callout (often much less!)
- They fly at a speed of 220kph (and in a straight line, so a lot faster than rescues by road)
- Hamilton to Whitianga is 2 hour 35 by ambulance or 35 minutes by Helicopter
Thanks Catherine for talking to the team in Hamilton, we very much appreciate it!
We are very lucky in Hamilton to have the beach on our doorstep, the lake and river throughout our city, and the forest all around us. This week our Tron Troopers team, made the most of our outdoors, adding over 900kms to the tally by running, cycling, walking, going to the gym and exercising our way through the first week of the 50KM a Day March Challenge.
The Hamilton Lake is probably the number one location you will see us clocking up the kms, though we also have surfers, kayakers, hikers, cricketers, and everything in between too!
Next week the Balloons will start flying too so some early morning balloon spotting will be on the cards for the team!
Léshay warming up before heading down for a surf in Raglan with the team as part of the Hamilton office social club!
Codi and Eloise kicking things off with a walk around Hagley Park in Christchurch!
