  • Everest Challenge 2024: Mission Accomplished

      18 April 2024

The Mount Everest Challenge 2024 is now complete. With 6 team mates each completing 38 climbs, we are happy to have completed the challenge for another year.

We made it through rain, hail, wind, sunshine, a few early mornings, and time off for a Taylor Swift concert. The team put some hard work in, and got the job done.

We thank you for your continued support and encouragement. We are very happy to announce that this year we raised $1,126 for the Surf Clubs. How awesome!

    Bring on Everest Challenge 2025!

    We are nearly there!

We would like to extend a massive thank you to all of our supporters for the 2024 Mount Everest Challenge!

Hopefully recovery from the hard yards is going well, with lots of deserved snacks and relax time for all of our local legends who took part in the challenge itself, which wrapped up on the 1st of April.

Together, with a whopping 119 participants, and 57 teams, we have raised $46,170 for our legendary local Surf Lifeaving Clubs in Omanu, Papamoa and Mount Maunagnui!

    But we're not done yet...

As usual, our donations will remain open until the 14th of April - and we are very excited to see just how far we can get in that time! - Any additional support in advocating for fundraising from within our local community is very much appreciated during this time.

  • Can almost see the peak!

With the end of the financial year approaching, we had 2 team members complete their 38 climbs 2 weeks ahead of the end date. Legends!

The rest of the team are still hitting the mountain, and chipping away at the climb counter. As of this morning, we have collectively completed 221 climbs.

As the end of the challenge falls on Easter weekend, it seemed fitting that today's photo featured a wee rabbit checking out the sunrise.

Thanks again for all the support and encouragement!

  • Toby's first time up the Mount!

      11 March 2024
    Main image

On Saturday we had a group of 17 head up the mount. Our intern, Toby, hadn't been up before, so we used the TrailRider to help get him up there.

Following the closure of the stairs, we were well prepared to take on the 4WD track. And it was an excellent team bonding opportunity.

We had perfect conditions for our climb, and enjoyed a celebratory treat from Copenhagen after. All round, it was a great day.

  • An update from halfway

      5 March 2024
    Main image

This week the stairs are closed for maintenance, so we're venturing out to the northern side of Mauao to see Matakana Island, and stretching out the calves on a few hill climbs. Although this adds a bit more distance, with a bit of rain to cool off, we are still ticking off the climb count.

Week 4 also marks our halfway point for the challenge. Collectively (between 12 team members) we've managed 113 climbs over this time, and some team members will continue their individual pursuits to hitting 38 climbs within the 50 days.

Nicole had a chat to Max and Jolene on The Breeze Morning Show this week, to give them an update on where we were at, and we also hit $1,000 raised so far.

Thanks again to all our supporters! We appreciate each and every one of you.

    Have a great week :)

  • 14 days down, 36 to go!

      26 February 2024

We are now into the third week of the challenge, and hopefully the good weather continues on. We've seen some epic sunrises, and sunsets (the image attached to this update is the sunrise on Day 1 of the challenge).

Our in-house competition has really ramped up this year, with one team collectively exceeding 38 climbs in just 12 days. Wahoo! Some of our team have taken a short hiatus to visit Sydney for the Eras tour. However the Swifties will be back next week to power through the second half.

We thank you again for your contribution and support to the Surf Life Saving Clubs. And thank you for the encouragement for our team as we climb our maunga.

    Have a great week!

    - Nicole, YRW
