  • Belinda gets good news

      10 February 2015

"Recovery update for all interested: today I had a full x-ray review with our consultant, so my ankle is healing perfectly. I am allowed to ditch the moon boot and walk!! My collar bones are healing well and I'm allowed to weight bear as tolerated.

However my elbow is not quite so good. I could possibly be in for more surgery as the bones are not healing as it should and they will need to use bone from my hip to repair it, this will be reviewed at next appointment in 6 weeks. Aaron also had good news all in all today, so we are both stoked as and recovery is going slow but well smile emoticon roll on March babe (Aaron) i knew we could do it!!! xxx"

Aaron is able to 25% weight bear on his thigh bone with two crutches for two weeks and will progress over the next six weeks to full weight bearing without crutches.

The couple have to vacate their current rental property on 28th February which is two weeks time. If anyone has a property which can also have pets please let them know.

  • Seven weeks to the wedding

      27 January 2015

I took Belinda to order flowers for her wedding. The florist was helpful, realising the bouquet must be light. She is still not allowed to weight bear on her arms because of the surgery on both collarbones. She has metal plates in both. On the up she starts physio on her elbow this week.

Planning the wedding is giving the family something positive to focus on.

Although Horizon Regional Council have been generous in allowing the family to stay in their rented house till now, the family have to find new accommodation by March 1st. They were to have vacated the house in December. So two weeks before the wedding, at the latest, they will have to move.

I continue to be amazed by the positive attitude they have.

Thank you to those who have donated so far, it has allowed the couple to go ahead with the wedding. Belinda told me they had been together for 15 years and engaged for 11.

Like all couples they have had their ups and downs, but just when it looked like everything was falling into place, the accident turned their lives upside down.

Aaron is still in a lot of pain especially his right leg which was virtually shattered.

I think the boys are keeping their dad's spirits up.

Belinda's Dad and Nana have been a great help with the boys.

  • Family are back together in Kairanga

      17 January 2015

Aaron and Belinda have been able to move back into the rented house with their boys. I'm sure this will be of benefit to all the family. Their emotional and physical well being is sure to be improved by returning to "a new normal" life. Their is still a long way to go, although Aaron is able to stand on crutches for short periods of time now.

Belinda is not able to hold anything in her hands heavier than 500 grams.

I'm sure the boys will be pleased to have mum and dad home.

It is only 8 weeks till this couple marry. Please help them with their special day by donating so we can pay for the suit hire, flowers and some catering.

Thank you to those who have already committed food and other resources for the wedding.

  • Belinda gets out of hospital

      17 January 2015

Belinda posted on 30th December edited by Susan Gibson

"To all following my recovery journey, I AM GOING HOME TODAY!!!! To what they call health recovery which is where i was meant to go to a rest home for 6 weeks and declined so I will be staying in Feilding at my dad and nana's home doing it and then once 6 weeks is up I then start rehab, so I still have a long way to go in my recovery journey but at least I'm home.

Thanks so much for all your support I can't thank You all enough. xxx "

Although Belinda is out of hospital she is still not with her children. They are being cared for by her dad and her nana at the rental property they were supposed to move out of. Through some persuasion by Belinda's dad the children have been able to stay there. This is particularly needed for Tyler who was in the car when the accident occurred. Being deaf autistic he need to have things as stable as possible.

Thanks to the family and friends who have made donations and been assisting with Aaron and Belinda's recovery.

  • Surgery for Belinda

From Belinda but edited by Susan.

Just to update all that are interested in my recovery, I am NOT out of hospital as a few people have thought, my cast on my operated ankle is still on as it hasn't healed as it should. Not sure when it will be taken off, also my cast on operated elbow has been taken off although should still be on but due to the weight on collar bones had to be removed. I have to be very careful with it. Both my collar bones were plated and screwed on Tuesday and I have minimal use of arms. I am not allowed to hold more than 500gms in each hand for about 6 to 12 weeks then they get reviewed. Not sure when I will be discharged from hospital at this stage as I can't mobilise and need full time care still at this stage.

  • Aaron home for Christmas

      21 December 2014

Having spent some time in isolation because of an infection in the wound on his leg, it seems Aaron may be able to be home for Christmas. When we say home that is moving in with Belinda's father who is currently looking after the two boys.

The alternative was to go to one of the two rest homes approved by ACC. As both Aaron and Belinda have worked in rest homes neither really wanted that.

I visited Belinda teatime Friday and her dad brought in Tyler. He may not be able to talk too well but he made it clear he wanted to go and see his Dad.

Belinda will probably be having an operation on her collarbones this week.

There is still a long way to go ahead. It will be some time before either of them can start rehabilitation.

Thank you to all have contributed so far.
