Build a dorm room for 30 vulnerable boys rendered homeless by the devastation of Cyclone Winston in Fiji.
Bay of Plenty
Yamacia Rugby Club provides a second chance for teenage boys with a talent for rugby who have dropped out of school and have limited opportunities for a positive future. The borrowed house 30 Yamacia boys were living in was destroyed in Cyclone Winston on the 20 of February 2016. We will build a dorm room to provide safe shelter for these boys. Yamacia rugby provides a lively rugby competition for the boys as well as educational seminars, including youth advocacy, drug awareness, family life education, financing and budgeting, and social work. Graduates from the program have gone on to have promising careers playing professional rugby and Sevens in Fiji, France, Australia & New Zealand. The academy literally turns their lives around. The cost of the dorm room with bathroom will be approx NZ$10,000. We have over half of this already.
Break Free Expeditions takes teams to Fiji every year to build for the poor. Each team member contributes NZ$500 per person to the building materials. Because the boys now have nowhere to live we want to raise additional funds over and above our team members contributions so that we can build them an adequate dorm with suitable bathroom and kitchen facilities.
