This fund raised NZ$6000 for Ebola orphans. We now have a follow-up project: http://givealittle.co.nz/cause/supportebolaorphans
Nationwide
I am a New Zealand doctor wishing to raise funds for my friend Ruth to use to help Ebola victims. Ruth Osadebay is an Australian nurse and midwife working in ELWA 3 Hospital in Liberia on a short-term placement. I worked with Ruth in Liberia in 2005 and I know she has enough local knowledge to make best use of the funds. Ruth lived in Liberia for several years before returning to Australia.
Liberia has a fragile welfare state and health system so it is efficient to support this cause via an individual. The donations so far of NZ$4700 have been converted to US$3400 and Ruth has already used most of this to provide grants to local families who have taken in orphans, and to provide a Christmas party for the children. You can read about this in the "updates" area.
The page is still open for donations, Ruth can access the money immediately and there is no real limit to how much can be used. She will be there until Christmas.
The money will not be used for any of Ruth's personal expenses. If donors provide their email address we can let you know how the money is used.
We have created a Facebook like page here https://www.facebook.com/EbolaRuth
Thanks in advance for any donations big or small and/or please like and share the facebook page to help.
Good progress.... 10 February 2015
Baby Georgeline photographed here was one of the orphaned newborns for whom lack of breast-feeding was life-threatening. Here she is, thriving on foster care and the nutritional supplies which our generous donors provided. Thank you.
Our follow up fund is up and running now to provide school fee payment for the older orphans. See http://givealittle.co.nz/cause/supportebolaorphans
or contact us for further details.
