Craig was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma in April 15. There's only one option left: a new drug called Pembrolizumab which costs $95,000.
Auckland
You may or may not have the honour of knowing Craig. He's a fantastic husband, father, son, brother and friend to all. In April we discovered he has metastatic melanoma. He has tumours throughout his body and has already been through radiation therapy for the ones in his brain and an operation to remove the cancer which caused an obstruction in his small bowel.
There is nothing more the hospital can do. Melanoma is an aggressive cancer and chemotherapy just won't work. We've tried numerous alternative therapies but the tumours keep coming.
His last hope is a new drug Pembrolizumab, which you may have heard about on the news this year. Pharmac don't fund it in NZ though and other countries won't treat non-citizens. It has a 25-40% success rate of shrinking tumours and costs $95,000 for a 9 month course. By that time, we should know if it's working.
Craig and I have only been married a year and a half. He has so much to live for and, true to form, is amazingly supportive to all those around him who are dealing with the shock of this totally unfair curveball thrown him.
If you have a little to help out, please donate! Every little helps!
Thanks for reading.
I'm Craig's wife and desperately want him to live!
Craig has lost his battle 28 January 2016
After initial signs that things were improving for Craig, an MRI and CT scan showed that tumours were growing and multiplying. He was admitted into hospital on 28 December, and from there to Hospice in January. The staff there were fantastic and he touched their hearts, as he was wont to do wherever he was. On Tuesday 26 January he finally found peace.
A service will be held for him at Davis Funerals at 150 Central Park Drive, Henderson on Tuesday 2 February at 10.30, followed by a gathering at Muriwai Beach for the day and into the night. All are welcome to come and share their Craig stories.
Thank you to all who donated to fund the Pembrolizumab that gave us so much hope for a while. We certainly put up a great fight!
