November Update on Toon
1 December 2015Great insight from Toon's last visit to the Neurosurgeon, the shunt/pump that has been installed will stay in place as the pressure from the growth of the tumour has caused the natural drainage channel to be compressed and blocked. The shunt/pump installed bypasses this compressed area and drains the brain fluid onto the stomach. It is hoped that if the tumour shrinks in size then the natural drainage channel will reopen, at which time the shunt/pump can be removed.
Also discussed with the Neurosurgeon was the possibility of operating to remove the tumour. However, it is his opinion that there is nothing to be gained from an operation at this time as Toon still has movement, sight, hearing, speech and memory. Because of the tumours location it is more than likely that one or more of those functions will be affected if they operate. Toons progress continues to be monitored closely.
