yesterday my mum had another surgery that removed a further 3cm melanoma from her back. The past month this lump has been causing her pain and making everyday tasks extremely uncomfortable. Currently mum is in recovery at home, in her bed playing Assassins . Iv never meet a stronger women than her in my life, she went in smiling and came out with that same happy face. Even though my mum is in pain she still try's her hardest not to be a burden on anyone else. I love her to the moon as back and envy her strength.

A huge thank you to Chad for the amazing donation on $900 to go towards my mums vitamin C treatments. Keep that donating up guys smile emoticon help keep my mums life as healthy as possible <3

  • IV treatments

      31 March 2015
    Main image

Today was mums second IV treatment. The environment was amazing! Everyone was so friendly, and surprisingly the place was full! There were many others getting vitamin C treatments. Some where doing chemo as well as vitamin C treatments. Some were terminal and others not. It was great having people to chat too during the hour long IV.

One elder man got asked if he wanted a drink, he said' yes a whiskey please' the nurse laughed and replied "sorry not 'till four" (as a joke obviously). Funnily enough his treatment finished and he had stuck around, chatting. The nurse asked him why and he said "I'm waiting for my free whiskey remember, its nearly four."

That made the whole room laugh.

It was most encouraging having people going through such similar situations surrounding us, being so positive and open during their own tough times. And right now positivity, support and a little bit of laughter is whats holding us together.

So again a large thank you to everyone who have supported us, donated and even those like that elder man who've made us laugh. <3

  • Amazing News!!!

      29 March 2015

We have fantastic news. Jen’s cancer growths have dramatically reduced!!!

Jen’s family “bawled their eyes out” when they found out on Friday. Jen says it was the first time they’ve had tears of joy instead of sadness after years of bad news at the doctors.

Jen’s latest CT Scan says her growths “have dramatically reduced in size and number and most are no longer conspicuous”. That is a quote from her medical report! Without going into all the details – they have at least halved.

The report concludes “significant improvement in previously noted cavitating pulmonary nodules, most of which have completely resolved.”

After many months of a dramatic lifestyle and diet change – the proof is in the smoothie that it is working! She had her first Vitamin C treatment last week (after the first payout from givealittle - thank you!).

Even though Jen and her family have stayed dedicated and positive, they were trying to be realistic and thought the scans would show no growth at the best.

Jen’s been on high all weekend and says she keeps on re-reading the result to double check it’s her name on it!

We continue to share Jen’s personal details on Givealittle because it is only through your support this has been possible. Not just financially (to pay for the food, supplements and the first round of Vitamin C) but importantly the support.

Jens says you can have positive motivation within yourself but support from other people is like a "super-charger of positive energy" and has truly made a big difference in what was otherwise an overwhelming situation.

So now we are ready for the next stage. Jen is having twice weekly vitamin C treatments for the next six weeks.

    * * * We are still fundraising for further treatments, so please keep your donations coming. * * *

Pictured: To celebrate the good news Ants got Jen a huge cuddly Shark (his favourite fish) because she's always wanted a really big teddy!

A big thank you to Abby Brown for writing an article on Jen's vitamin C therapy, to get our story out there

'Terminal cancer patient and Ramarama resident Jen Reid has decided to fight to maintain her quality of life using vitamin C infusions.

‘‘It’s not about reducing the cancer; it’s just for that quality of life for as long as I can get it,’’ she said.'

    Check it out

  • Smoothie Sunday

      1 March 2015
    Main image

Today's smoothie was simply made of 3 oranges, 1 banana and a 1/4 of a watermelon. With minimal fruits, surprisingly this smoothie was very tasty and filled with goodness!

Oranges- oranges are packed with vitamin c! This is one of the best fruits for Jen. They Contain beta-carotene, which is proven to protect Skin cells from being damaged.

Watermelons- Watermelons are about 92 percent water, even so this refreshing fruit has plenty of nutrients such as vitamin A, B6 and C

Banana- Bananas are high in potassium, helping maintain a healthy heart fuction. They also contain a simple 90 calories and 2.5 grams of fiber, making a banana a day nearly 10% of your daily fiber needs.

You guys need to try this smoothie at home!??? 100% healthy for you and insanely tastie :D

All these beautiful ingredients are all thanks to my mums father (: Ever since the family decovered about mums illness, her parents have been growing many of our fruits and veggies, this has been an extreme help for us!! Recently we have had to purchess another refrigerator for all our healthy supplies haha thanks to my grandfather

Thank you to everyone for all the support and kind donations, every little bit means so much to the family, especially to my mum. She feels extremely greatful for all the love coming from so many people. ??

Keep up the donating guys !!! Every bit counts xx

  • Sunday Smoothie

      22 February 2015
    Main image

Todays smoothie is made up of Soy milk, blueberries, Bananas, and sun dried Dates (to add as a sweetener)

Soy milk strengthens the blood vessels throughout your body and provides that milky texture to the smoothie. Blueberries are a rich source of the phytonutrients ellagic acid. Ellagic acid has proven anticancer capabilities. It also encourages a healthy rate of apoptoses, where the body seeks out and destroys harmful or damaged cells, such as cancer cells. We like to use bananas in our Smoothies as they add that extra sweetener.

After placing all the ingredients in a blender, blend on high speed for half a minute until you reach a smooth consistency were you can add more water if desired.

These smoothies are extremely tasty and full of good nutrients which makes for the perfect Sunday snack. Please try it at home and let us know how you find it!

  • My mums progress report <3

      17 February 2015

    Hi everyone (:

Throughout the past few weeks, my mum and the family have been overwhelmed with support from all the generous donations. It has been really heartwarming to hear from all the people willing to contribute towards my mums cause.

With me and my mum both on a vegan/vegetarian diet, it has been an exciting journey testing out all the different types of food that we are allowed to comsume, from many different types of Tofo, to a variety of tasty smoothies made out of fruits we have never heard of before. Yesterday my mum had an appointment with her specialist to talk about the extreme weight loss she has been dealing with for the past 6 months. Her specialist has recommended that she introduce boneless, skinless chicken breast into her diet, as the chicken will improve her protein levels and allow her to manage her weight properly.

Once again we are truly greatful for all the people that have kindly contributed towards my mums battle against cancer. Please keep up all the loving support, as we all know that the vitamin C shots are extremely expensive and it is awesome knowing that we are all a big team in this cancer assassination!

    king regards

    Jess
