Help Sian go for gold with the New Zealand U21 Women's team at the Canoe Polo World Championships in August!
Hawke's Bay
Hi all :)
I am Sian Fendall. I am a 19 year old student, born and bred in Hawkes Bay. I am currently studying at Massey University in Palmerston North.
In August this year, I am heading off to Europe with the NZ U21 Women’s Canoe Polo team to compete at the World Championships.
Over the next 10 weeks, I have to raise $10,000 - $12,000 to pay for this trip. So $1,000 a week! ARGHHH!!!!
My parents support me in all my endeavours. We are trying every avenue possible to raise this money, but being a small family we have a limited network of people to call on. Plus all the money I had saved for this year, has already been used for training camps, polo competitions EVERY weekend, and my living costs in Palmerston North.
I began playing canoe polo in Year 6 at Parkvale Primary School. Despite attending a high school that didn’t offer canoe polo as a sporting option, I preserved and 10 years on I am still loving the sport!
I played for Hawkes Bay from 2011-2013 in the National League Women’s B Grade and my first taste of representing New Zealand came in 2013 when as a 16 year old I made the Women’s U21 team for the Oceania Championships (Silver).
Since 2014, I have played for Palmerston North in the National League Women’s A Grade. I have continued to represent New Zealand in the Women’s U21 team at the 2014 World Championships (Bronze) and the 2015 Oceania Championships (Gold).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTDHuhe7TtU – This clip features snippets of games from the 2014 World Championships. Spot the NZ teams as they feature quite regularly, including some of the U21 games where we gained a bronze medal! We are going for GOLD this year!
Any contributions would be HUGELY APPRECIATED!
Many thanks
Sian x
