About Our 2% Effective Fee

Givealittle exists to help New Zealanders raise money for the people, projects, and communities they care about. We are New Zealand’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising platform — and we are also a registered charity.

Our mission is to make giving simple, safe, and impactful. To do that, we charge a small 5% platform fee that covers the costs of operating Givealittle. Because most donors choose to top up their gift to cover this fee, the average cost that fundraisers actually pay is about 2%.

How it works

Every donation on Givealittle incurs a 5% platform fee. This supports technology, page moderation, compliance, secure payments, and customer support.

At checkout, donors can add a small top-up to cover this fee. Most choose to do so.As a result, about 98% of what is donated reaches the intended cause.

Example:

A donor gives $50. The platform fee is $2.50. Most donors add a $2.50 top-up, meaning the cause still receives the full $50. Across hundreds of thousands of donations, this brings the average cost for fundraisers down to around 2%.

Why there’s a fee

Running a trusted fundraising platform takes real resources. Our fee covers:

  • Secure technology and payment systems
  • Fraud prevention, compliance, and page verification
  • Real-person support for donors and fundraisers
  • Ongoing improvements to make Givealittle easier and safer to use
Because we are a not-for-profit, every dollar of revenue is reinvested into this mission — none goes to the owners.
