On January 8th I had a motorcycle accident in Bali, Indonesia which crushed my left leg. I now face a 30 thousand NZD debt for medical bills
Auckland
At 9am on January 8th I was involved in a motorcycle accident in Bali, Indonesia.
I was on the way to the shops when I was cut off by another scooter. I did my best to avoid a collision but in doing so lost control of my bike. The bike ended up crushing my leg resulting in a broken femur, shattered kneecap and a fractured hand.
Although I thought I had done the right thing taking out Travel Insurance it wasn't until I tried to claim that I learned that I wasn't covered due to a clause surrounding drivers licence issues.
By this stage my leg was pooling with blood which was potentially life threatening so my mother Gael had to intervene (as any loving mother would) and hand over her credit card details.
Without insurance cover Gael had soon maxed out her and a friends credit cards to get surgery underway to save my leg and potentially my life.
To neutralise the credit card debt Gael has since had to take out a second mortgage against her home. My father Paul has contributed what savings he had and has also auctioned off two of his beloved guitars. I am personally liquidating what assets I can but we are still thousands shy of the total.
I am looking at a total debt in excess of 30 thousand New Zealand dollars when all is said and done. Yes that is one expensive leg!
Any contribution welcome, big or small. At this stage every dollar will help.
As my background is in music I will be preparing a compilation of previously unreleased New Zealand electronica produced by myself and friends. This will be available for free download to donors as a token of my appreciation.

Many thanks to the generous donors thus far! 29 January 2015
We thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for helping out with what you can, be it a little or in some cases a lot. The amount of support has been truly overwhelming and will go a long way to easing this financial burden. I have my last check up at the hospital in a couple of days and will be flying home to New Zealand in the next week or two. Meke Arohanui (Much Love) Jacob and the family xo
