Support for Kaloris, Sakie and their Families

  • Action Time!

      31 March 2015

    31/03/2015

Hi folks. I was able to speak at length with Kaloris tonight.

He has tried to get ahold of Sakie and left messages, but no word yet as hes likely out and deployed with the relief work, or may have lost his mobile in the Cyclone.

With my other fundraiser, eventual sale of the rug and saxophone I am confident we can raise a little over $2000.

After discussion with Kaloris and Karen Anslow, we have decided/agreed, I will ask the bank for a personal overdraft of $1000 (until the GiveALittle fund comes through on the 25th April, and get the money to Kaloris asap before the weekend this week (2nd April 2015). When the GiveALittle foundation transfers the first chunk on the 25th I'll clear my overdraft.

Kaloris and the community is in need of a chainsaw.

There are many trees all over the place, around the village, and their around families homes.

A STIHL MS250 is available locally for a little under $1000 and after discussing with him, we have agreed it is a good use of the money. Kaloris hasn't really started on the cleanup around his home yet as he has been busy helping the community, and employees getting the business back up and running.

He's very cognizant of the perception of any inappropriate use of the influx of donor funds. We will post receipts and transactions online. He'll also get his kids to take some photos and we'll see if we can upload them next week.

HI folks, this plan is now in effect and actioned as of 5pm 01/04/2015.

The account we setup is now in overdraft at -$994.32 awaiting funds transfer from the GiveALittle Foundation on the 25th April 2015.

I have now transferred NZD 1061.32 / VT 79340 to Karl who will purchase a chainsaw to help clear fallen trees, buildings etc. The price for this model is good.

This would make a great story piece for any home. Brand New. Please Share!

My mate Kaloris in Vanuatu needs a chainsaw. You buy this, he gets a chainsaw. Simple Eh?

Selling this rug bought by me in Kabul Afghanistan 2010 to raise funds for friends family in Vanuatu. Spaghetti can for sale, can be included if you wish.

It was made by a family in the North of Afghanistan, and is a Turcoman Rug.

The wool was sheared by hand, dyed by hand, and made in a special family room.

The colour has an almost indigo sheen to it in sunlight. The pattern on the back is exactly the same as the front.

Colours are clear and bright in the sunglight - they appear the same to my eye as per the photos. In a home, the colours are darker. Its not bright red, its has a purply sheen in sunlight.

It has been in storage and never walked on. It is the typical type of carpet you would sit on when visiting an Afghan family.

This is a genuine hand knotted tribal rug, made by a family, over a period of months, bought in Afghanistan, bought for a fair price, and selling to support families in Vanuatu after Cyclone Pam.

It is about 5ft long by 3ft wide.

$400 donation to our Vanuatu Relief Fund. 100% to families in need.

  • Kaloris Needs a Chainsaw

      29 March 2015

    "Hi Mate,

This is hard to do writing a list of what we might need.

Our priorities at the moment is focus on recovery and cleaning so a chainsaw would go a long way in helping however am not sure if that is possible?

    Cheers,

    Karl"

I've also asked if its easier if we send money, can he buy it.

I am selling this to free up a little cash to give to two friends in Vanuatu.

I have traveled with this awesome wee tooter to Iraq and Afghanistan. It is as new condition. It has lived all of its life in its hard case. More Photos to come tonight.

Dont make your kids learn a Clarinet - They totally SUCK and do nothing to enhance your street cred at high school.

This is the same price range, easy to carry, light and alot bloody more sexy than some dumb 2nd hand clarinet (offense intended)! Plus its shiney and golden.

$400 donation to the cause and its yours couriered to where ever. Paid $800 new in 2009.

100% Perfect working order, like new, brand new.

All proceeds will go to this cause: http://givealittle.co.nz/cause/vanuaturelief

  • Spoke with Kaloris briefly this morning

      23 March 2015

Hi Everyone - Duane here - I just spoke to Karl in Vanuatu - Everything is as expected - Houses are damaged and pretty much everything else too, he does not know where to start.

His focus at the moment is tracking down their staff and making sure they are safe as well.

His Family is all safe, their three kids are with him and safe, ages 17,15,13.

I told him of our fundraiser and asked him to just tell us anything else he needs. Our funding approach is the best option, cargo from us isn't suitable (Logistics is his profession).

I also offered him the option of sending his kids here to stay with us.

Sakie is with the Army at the moment, Karl is going to track down his bank details.

I have told him that all his friends from College are thinking about him, that we have rallied the troops on Facebook, and to just tell us if there is anything we can do.

To be honest, that was one of the most difficult conversations of my life.
