  • Operation #4 the last chance to save Ruby's Leg

      19 March 2018
    Main image

7th March Ruby held my hand so tight before she went into surgery and for the first time I held my tears back looked her in the eye and said "THIS IS THE LAST TIME! SOON WE WILL BE DANCING TOGETHER AGAIN OK!" and I gave her a hug and smiled... Anybody who has children going through operations will know it never get easier! All we ever want is for them to get better.... The night after her operation was hell we had no sleep Ruby was in so much pain it was horrible. The next day all the did was cut through the cast that she is in from foot to thigh and most the pain disappeared! She had swelling under the cast and there was nowhere for it to release thats why she was in so much pain. After all her meds were sorted both her and I slept all day! Ruby's under strict instructions as her break in her leg is not healed she cannot put any weight on her leg she is pretty much on strict bed rest.

  • 1 WEEK ON IV ANTIBIOTICS

      19 March 2018
    Main image

So after being on the antibiotics for a week and everyday was no fun as Ruby's IV lines kept collapsing all her veins have had enough and so did she! She had a PIC line that is a day surgery where they put a line in from your arm to your heart that will then feed through the antibiotics which worked alot better than drs having to find veins everyday to put a IV line in.... but after a week unfortunately Ruby's leg was not doing any better so Ruby's surgeon gave us our last chance to saving her leg was to take the rod out that had been put in, in January. The surgeon thinks the rod isn't helping her in her recover. The decision was then made on the 7th March to operate again and take out the metal rod. We know this is our last chance at saving her leg and all we can do is hope and pray this works. Meanwhile I have been staying with her everyday and every night which really takes its toll! I had to cancel my crohns operation to be there for Ruby's... I have and will always be there for Ruby no matter what.

  • Sorry its been too long since last update...

      19 March 2018

So on the last week of February Ruby came to me with pain in her leg again!! I took her to her specialist and he said she needed to be admitted and put on IV antibiotics as the infection unfortunately has come back. Ruby refused and left the hospital. She has had the medical system let her down so much she didn't want to be let down again! I managed to convince her after 4 days to go back to hospital.

  • Busy Trying to get life back on track

      21 February 2018

Ok so, The past few weeks Ruby has been attending physio and doing well she even enrolled herself and was accepted into hairdressing college. Unfortunately she is unable to do a full-time course due to not only her physical injuries but also her head injury and fatigue. She has been so happy it means she will finally be getting her life back on track and our family can too. However, sadly Ruby has yet another infection in her leg now and we are due to go back to hospital tomorrow. We have no idea what the future holds as yet but please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we have a very broken young lady not only on the inside and out as her dreams have been shattered yet again!! This is a constant struggle and we really need the medical professionals to find a way to sort this out! Ill keep you all posted...

Well today we found out what was growing in Ruby's leg and I still cant spell or pronounce it so once that sorted i'll let you know! Apparently the bug is bread from animals and since we live on a farm and Rubys's bestie is "Moscow" as you have seen! Ruby is beside herself as the infectious disease Dr has advised Ruby to spend less time around animals and Moscow until her wound is healed better. At first they wanted to keep us in another night but we managed to get out and now staying with my Mum since its away from the farm.

  • DAY 5

      23 January 2018

Another tough day Ruby had what is called put a PIC line put in under local anesthetic and it took about 45mins the line goes from her arm to her heart. It is there so when we go home we will be able to get the district health nurse to administer antibiotics that way. However at about 530pm we have started having issues as her heart keeps beating to fast so she is now being monitored by the drs and nurses closely within the next hour or so to see if she will need to go back to surgery to have the PIC moved as they think it could be in the wrong place...Stuff this!!!!i'm so tired and have no bed and just all this stress is getting to me! Here's hoping i get some rest!!!

Ok, so the cultures which are being grown to find out what infection is growing in Rubys leg are being treated by alot of IV antibiotics and now they have upped the dose again! However we have not seen any drs today they must be on Holiday... Ruby got out to see her fav doggy (Moscow) so that put a huge smile on her face. It’s been hard a lot of screaming and pain today along with not much sleep for either of us! The surgeon came around and gave Ruby the rod he took out of her leg which was interesting! They have put a new rod in now and we are trying to get rid of the infection so hopefully her leg will heal so she can walk again. PLEASE SEE GRAFFIC PICTURES BELOW!
