Help a keen average teenager to fulfil her dream to discover her Swiss heritage to learn and soak up all she can.
Timaru, Canterbury
Hi everyone,
This is for my daughter, she will explain what this is all about…..
Hello,
my name is Mia Wellauer,
born and bread in New Zealand,
I’m a 16 year old student from Timaru.
I am very fortunate to have been offered an opportunity to travel to Switzerland to stay with a very kind family that has similar aged children as me.
I’ve never been overseas and my dream is to go discover my Swiss roots, learn Swiss German, make new friends and discover where my family comes from.
My father and grandfather are both born in Thurgau, Switzerland.
Travel costs are fairly expensive and my awesome parents and grandparents have all chipped in to get me over there.
I have saved some money thru my casual job I have recently landed but sadly the hours are very limited.
My parents will still be supporting me when I’m over there as there are medical insurance and monthly travel costs.
After a lot of research, I have found that most classes to learn Swiss/german language are too far out of our reach financially. Up to and over $20,000.
My future Swiss family discovered a course designed for foreign people to integrate into the Swiss community, this includes learning reading, writing, language and maths. This course runs for one semester which is more affordable, the course is in another town so I will be travelling by train daily to get to the classes.
I leave nz July 18 and I’ll hopefully be starting the course sometime soon after my arrival there.
Thank you for reading my page.
I’m the father of Mia
First time on givealittle
Hopefully this will cover the Course fees, otherwise travel expenses and other cultural activities to discover my roots
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT 14 August 2023
Mia is happy in Switzerland and she will be starting her course end of august. She very motivated and excited. Thanks again!!! From all of us.
