Bill Caunce and Aaron Duncan are the current National Champions, and are off represent NZL in the Tornado World Championships in Germany.
Canterbury
Living in separate islands in NZ and sailing round work commitments, Aaron and Bill excel when they team up in the ex-Olympic sailing class, the Tornado catamaran. They placed 21st in the World Championships in Perth in 2014 and are aiming to be in the top 20 at this year’s event in Lindau, Germany. Many of the top sailors from this class have gone on to various America’s Cup syndicates Others continue to sail in this class many years on, making it a very experienced class and competitive boat.
With Aaron living in the South Island, he sees the experience of international competition vital to keep up the standard of racing at his local club, Naval Point Club Lyttelton. Having completed YNZ coaching and judging courses, he is able to use his international racing experience to enthuse and upskill younger (and older!) sailors at a local level.
We would appreciate any donations towards our campaign and if you can’t help financially, spreading the word of our fundraising. Funds will be used towards entry fees, accommodation and airfares.
