Dunedin Summer Shakespeare-in-the-park presents ROMEO & JULIET under a unique mentorship umbrella.
Otago
Dunedin Summer Shakespeare is the miraculous love child of us - Jessica Latton, Lara Macgregor and Kim Morgan.
We recognise a pressing need for employment opportunities for professional Dunedin actors and creatives, and a gap within artistic development opportunity in the city.
Our multi-cultural passion-fuelled production of ROMEO AND JULIET by William Shakespeare uses a model that brings professional and amateur actors together over a four month development process.
To date we have held three comprehensive workshops to audition, up-skill and mentor 20 young amateurs - preparing them vocally, physically and with text for the demands of performing outdoors.
Beginning December 2019 we bring in our professionals which include; actors, director, choreographer, costumer, marketer, musicians and stage management to begin rehearsals.
We are proud to have created over 35 opportunities for performers in the city.
In order to reach the stars making this project FREE to the community, we (ironically) need your support make that happen.
Please contribute what you might usually pay for the price of a ticket to assist in on-going career and cultural development opportunity in the city.
ROMEO AND JULIET aims to be the first of an annual FREE event in the city.
I am creator and co-producer on the project alongside Jessica and Rhys Latton, and Kim Morgan. We each share the weight of applying for funding opportunities.
Funds raised will provide opportunity for Stage Management and Director Interns, provide Fight Choreography training for the actors, and enable us to increase the number of musicians employed in the show as well as to cover any added expenses in wardrobe, sound and set.
