2023 Christmas lights fundraiser for Stoke Volunteer Fire Brigade
Stoke, Nelson
I have never been a big Christmas person and didn’t see the point in all the Christmas fuss until recent years.
We as a family have been through a rough few years with substantial flooding and not one but two fires, the second of which we walked away with our cars and what we were wearing.
In the days following the second fire the support from the Stoke Fire Brigade, Victim Support and the community was amazing. It’s hard to describe the feeling when you are so low with so little and complete strangers offer help. It’s overwhelming.
We had random people dropping off food, clothing, toys and grocery vouchers, old property managers dropping in
cleaning supplies when we finally found a new rental, the fire brigade arranging food and a lovely member of the community dropped off a warehouse voucher for us to buy basics i.e. tooth brushes, undies
and toiletries, and also arranged for meal and grocery vouchers from local businesses.
It is due to this overwhelming community support that I have started to do the Christmas lights to hopefully bring a smile to someone that is having a rough day, week, or year.
It is one way we can give back to the community and bring joy to those around us at a time that can be tough and stressful for some families.
This is our second-year decorating and this year we have decided that we are going to ask for donations that will go to the STOKE VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE to help them with the amazing work they do.
They have helped us through two house fires and this is our chance to give back.
Donated to the Stoke Volunteer Fire Brigade for them to use as they see fit.
Thank you 1 January 2024
A huge thankyou you to all those that have donated this year. Between this page, the 3 bbq's and donation box we raised over $2500 that will be gifted to the Stoke Volunteer Fire Brigade. Happy new year and will see you all again for our 2024 Christmas light display later this year.
