Appeal for support from a diabetes survivor retrofitting an off-grid home for life-saving nightly dialysis while seeking a kidney transplant
Waikato, Waikato District
For 36 years, I’ve fought a relentless battle with diabetes. I’ve survived a toe amputation, a broken heel, and even traveled overseas for treatment when local options failed. I’ve never backed down, but now I’m facing my toughest challenge: end-stage renal failure. To stay alive, I must start Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) immediately.
My situation is unique: I live off-grid. While I love this life, my home isn’t currently equipped to be a "home hospital." PD requires a 10-hour nightly connection to a cycler machine, a perfectly sterile environment, and medical-grade water. Without upgrades, my home is a hazard; with them, it’s my sanctuary.
Every night, while the world sleeps, I’ll be tethered to a machine that filters my blood. Because I’m off-grid, I’m constantly monitoring battery levels to ensure my lifeline doesn’t lose power. I’ve fought for four decades to stay standing, and I’m not ready to stop now. Dialysis is my bridge to the ultimate goal: a kidney transplant.
I’m asking for your help to retrofit my home for survival. I am still navigating my way down this very scary path, and so far have not found any available funding anywhere. Whether it’s $5 or sharing my story to help me find a living kidney donor, you are providing the fuel for my fight. I’ve survived 36 years of this disease through resilience; now, I’m asking for a little help to see the next 36. Thank you for being part of my journey.
Much love to you all.
