  • Trademe Auction to support Karain

      6 November 2023
    Main image

Thankyou to all who have generously donated. In the course of the medical assessment following Karain's horrendous accident, a lesion was discovered on his kidney. This has recently been successfully removed. This was a blessing as the type of cancer would, under normal conditions not be found until it had significantly progressed. We are continuing to fundraise.

One of Karain's Jiu Jitsu whanau has generously donated a UFC glove signed by Israel Adesanya the UFC Champion.

Please share this with those whanau you know who may be interested in this special piece of UFC memorabilia.

The Trademe auction can be found using this link. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/search?search_string=UFC%20glove%20Israel%20Adesanya

  • New goal

      3 October 2023

When we set the goal of $25,000 we did not have the full diagnosis. With recent publicity we are going to share more about Karain’s story to help him establish a new life with the results of a traumatic brain injury and 30 % vision. Thank you for all who have donated to help in the journey so far.

  • Wow we hit $25,000. We are so grateful.

      3 October 2023

On behalf of Karain and Susan thank you. We acknowledge the love and sacrifice that has been given. Yes we hit the goal but we want to keep going. The facts are harsh. Karain cannot continue to work as an Electrical contractor. He now has 30% vision. Life has changed. While we have faith and optimism there are challenges ahead. We are going to keep going. Thank you to all who have helped.

      12 September 2023

Firstly, thank you, thank you, thank you. Karain and Susan are so grateful for the donations. Karain has an eye appointment this week as the accident has left him with only 50% vision in one eye. There has been some information from the doctors that gives us hope. We will keep you posted. I have just spoken to Karain who wishes to share his immense gratitude for all the help.

  • And now cancer...

      7 September 2023

We have not shared this until now.

    Karain has cancer.

During the medical investigation into the extent of Karain' injuries from being hit by the boat, cancer was discovered in one of his kidneys. This has proved to be a blessing.

The type of lesion that has been detected under normal circumstances would not cause symptoms until at a more aggressive stage of cancer growth. Having the lesion detected now means removal is easier and recovery is easier.

Karain is now booked for surgery to have the cancer removed. He is also scheduled to have an implant inserted into his skull to replace the lost portion of bone from his skull.

He continues to be courageous and optimistic. He is very grateful for the blessings of support.

Karain would not be alive had it not been for his wife Susan, who battled through many obstacles to keep her husband alive. They are a courageous team.

Thank you for everyone who has supported them on their journey so far.

  • Karain and Susan are very grateful for your generous support

      7 September 2023

On behalf of Karain and Susan, I would like to say thank you for the generous donations. These are challenging times, and we all feel the impact of price increases. From fuel to food it's not easy to make ends meet. This means your generosity is even more meaningful. Thank you. Karain is home now learning how to live with significantly reduced vision. He is unable to work in his profession as an electrician. He is however focusing on recovery and navigating a new way of living. It is not going to be easy. The future is a challenge. Thank you once again.
