It is with a broken heart that I must let you know that Sally has finally lost her six year battle with ovarian cancer.

Over the last eight years our relationship with many of you has evolved from customers to friends. If you wish to say 'goodbye' and share in our celebration of Sallys' life you are welcome to join the family

Thank you to everyone who has emailed, phoned, texted and used social media etc to pass on their condolences. I'm sure Sally would have been blown away with the number of friends around the world that have remembered her.

A Celebration of Sally Starlings' life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday 9th November at the Northbrook Chapel, Rossburn Reception, Spark Lane, Rangiora, New Zealand.

The Celebration was prepared by Sally. There will be an opportunity during the service to sign messages on Sallys' casket. At Sallys' request please wear colourful clothing, no black or ties, this is a celebration, not a mourning.

This will be followed by a private cremation.

Please come prepared to share your memories / stories, If you are unable to attend but would like something read out please email it to starlingfamily@outlook.com

In lieu of flowers, Sally has requested that donations be made in her name to the Nurse Maude Hospice whose staff and volunteers took such great care of her.

  • Kind words about Sally from her brother Andrew

I cut and paste this post of Andrew James Whitfield facebook posting about his sister Sally...

The reason we as a family are in New Zealand and the best birthday present ever, is to see my sister Sally Starling. Sally is nearing the end of her fight with cancer, so being able to spend time with her this past couple of weeks has been amazing.

Sadly, today I fly home and have to say goodbye. But, this morning I awoke to this face, Sally back to being her usual stoic, strong and humourful self, so had to take this picture. Check out that smile! x

I just had the privilege of going and visiting Sally and Paul at their in Rangiora. What an amazing lady, friend, sister, daughter, mother and wife, she has such a positive attitude when facing the reality.

I said to Sally, it was nice Paul got you out on Sunday, she replied "was that Sunday", she said "she’s lost all track of the days of the week", and it made me think that she really does live one day at a time. Every day is a bonus, so if you’re reading this make Sally proud, and make every day of your life count.

On the weekend she had an awesome Christmas dinner with her family, not that she could eat all that she wanted on the table. Sally seemed to be quite comfortable, from a Layman's perspective. The most important thing is Sally's outlook, it is certainly one to be admired. There is no doubt in anyones mind that knows Sally, she is a very strong person. I am one of the lucky ones who got to spend some of my day with a beautiful friend. Thank you Sally!!

Sally is going well mentally. She has had next to nothing to eat for the last month and is visibly malnutrition and as a result quite weak. Amazingly strong lady. She has come home from the hospice to spend her last few days at home with her family that have come over from the UK.

Paul the shop has been shut almost 3 weeks whilst I have cared for Sally.
