Two weeks after the accident their car was stolen from outside "Ronald McDonald House"
Northland
The 15th March 2019 will be a day we'll never forget, our precious boy 'Fiazco Porter-Lewis' was hit by a speeding driver in 4wheel truck while he was on his cellphone on statehighway 1 in Wellsford.
Fiazcos dad Bevan (who he was visiting) immediately performed CPR to resucitate him. For a moment Fiazco screamed out "Dad", then lost consciousness. He was then air lifted to Starship Hospital in critical condition and taken immediately to surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain, repairing a fractured rib, a collapsed lung and he even had "tyre marks" along his leg. The doctors placed him in an induced coma and transferred him to ICU, rotating him on the hour so he didn't catch pneumonia.
This was the most scariest time of our lives, seeing his body laying there with no response. Our family and friends visiting from as far as Kaitaia down to Taupo.
10 days later after having the extended families by his side, praying 24-7 he woke up and cried out wanting his mum Mekayla (a single mum). She says doctors then advised the outcome to be a very bleak one as Fiazco sustained major brain injuries, which he'll be suffering from for the rest of his life. Needing rehabilitation to relearn how to do everything all over again such as walking, talking and eating.
If this wasn't bad enough their family car was stolen from outside Ronald McDonald House just two weeks after the accident. Thieves made off with their new car, inside Mekayla had packed their belongings she didn't want to cart back and forth to the hospital including extra bedding for family, food, their clothes, gifts given to Fiazco from family and friends which couldn't be taken into ICU, even his easter eggs. Who could do such a thing?
As of today the 4th of April the police had found the car adandoned, with a broken ignition so it can't start and two broken windows where the thieves had made entry. The vehicle is undrivable and all items inside were ransacked and taken.
To make matters worse, with no family car this has meant Mekaylas unable to travel back to Whangarei to care for her other 14yr old son Odeon who attends High School there. She's had to ask family members for help and that in itself has been crushing. Everyone just can't even imagine how soul destroying this must feel for all three of them right now being ripped apart from their normal lives and thrown into the unknown. Especially with a brain injury patient where everything will now take months, even years to accomplish.
Mekayla has had to walk everywhere to get food, toiletries etc and said when Fiazco is finally discharged she doesn't even know how the pair will get home to Whangarei. She says the stress is just overwhelming some days to look at her boys and not have any means to provide them the basics.
I am hosting this Give a Little page on Mekaylas behalf to help her and her sons slowly piece their lives back together and ease the pressure coming from so many avenues and your donations would be gratefully appreciated.
