This user has chosen not to display their real name, but their identity has been verified by Givealittle.Mary (not her real name as identification may be detrimental to her children) and her family are currently living in a house that is unfinished and unsafe to live in.
In about 2011, she suffered from severe depression and was subsequently put on medication to help. She improved somewhat and after watching a few TV programs about DIY renovating, unwisely decided that she could tackle her house renovations herself.
This resulted in a horrible mess that now only professionals can fix, and she and her young children are living in a house that is unfinished and unsafe.
At one stage when she was very unwell, she arranged for a builder to take out a wall and had a beam put in. She was assured by the “professional” who put the beam in that she did not need council consent to do this work. This was unfortunately not the case as it was a supporting wall for the upper storey.
The mess that has occurred as a result of her actions now horrifies and scares Mary and she constantly worries for the safety of her children, who are living in an unsafe environment.
She has saved hard and has purchased some items to contribute towards fixing the house but will never have enough money to pay for the necessary labour, materials and consents.
Smartway Builders want to help make this house safe and habitable again and need your help to do it.
Smartway Builders, which is run by Ann and Howard Woolston want to be able to give back to the community and have offered to complete the work for her. They are now fundraising to make this happen and need all the help they can get. Any funds that are raised that exceed what is required for this work will be used to help other families in need within the community.
