Whalery--First Cause Page--closed April 2016
Our Whalery will tell the story of Golden Bay/Mohua's rich marine ecosystem, including mass whale strandings. And with a whale skeleton!

We're into the home straight! Over $100,000 has been raised--we just need a final $7,000 to be able to build our whalery -- and $5,000 for the displays. Golden Bay/Mohua has a wonderfully interesting marine ecosystem that we want to explain to visitors. One of its mysteries is the mass whale strandings at Farewell Spit--the only South Island site. With the support of local iwi and DOC we have the chance to display a pilot whale skeleton as the focal point of our new display space --our Whalery. The Whalery will also provide better access and climate control for precious objects on display.
Our community has covered all the planning costs ($10,000) so far, and we have raised over $95,000 through grants and other funding--THANKS Pub Charity, Rata Foundation, Lottery Grants, GB Quilters, MacLab NZ, NZ King Salmon, Pupu Hydro, and GBLions! Please help us achieve this very special space to tell our local natural history story. Donations of $1000 or more are eligible for recording on a permanent donors board.
Extra donations will help us create the information panels and interactive displays--GREAT!
