Whalery--First Cause Page--closed April 2016

  • Last post!

      1 May 2016

Yes this "Cause" page has closed and we are so grateful for all donations. We still need to raise another $5,000 -- and you can do that through our main Give-a-Little page. Here's hoping we can get underway soon! Thanks -- and best wishes, Penny (Chairperson)

  • Village Theatre pulls out the Stops

      27 April 2016

We're so sooooo grateful to Natascha at the Village Theatre for offering to screen a shortened version of the video as a trailer--and to have a donation box and fliers. There's something special about Golden Bay when everyone gets in behind a project. And Yerren did the techie work -- nice one; I'd better go along and see it!

  • Skeleton enters a new stage

What a beautiful jawbone; hollow and fragile. Alan McLean says the bones are now drying after their long soak. Some wax and fatty deposits remain, which will be carefully removed by hand. It's exciting to see the skeleton move into a new phase. Next summer we hope to show you the completed skeleton at the Museum in Takaka -- please help us build the Whalery! We need your donation.

  • Here's our YouTube video!

      25 March 2016

Do have a look at this great video which the Morgan Foundation has created for us -- thanks, Gareth and Nick!

The video will give you a really good feel for what we're so close to achieving ... and why it's so special. We just need a bit more of your help -- about $9,000 to go. Please help us get there. Thanks from the team at Golden Bay Museum.

We've been receiving some really good local donations straight into our bank account -- which is great. Our fundraising goal is $9,000 as at 11 April, which is for construction--any extra will go into creating our display panels. Thanks!

  • Six weeks -- and just $15,000 needed!

      13 February 2016

Our film event on Waitangi Weekend was a success -- we raised $500, with a bit of help from our friends the Village Theatre and the GBWeekly. Everyone who came really enjoyed the documentaries and refreshments -- and took home a treat from Sealord!

Please tell your friends about this unique top-of-the-south attraction -- and encourage them to be a Give-a-Little supporter to help get us there! We'd really like to have it up and running by next summer. (Donations attract a one-third tax refund from IRD!)

Thanks a lot from the Golden Bay Museum team.

  • Almost there -- Just need your help!

The planned extension to Golden Bay Museum Te Waka Huia o Mohua to tell the story of our local marine environment is almost within grasp.

Just before Christmas, the Museum learnt its Lottery Grants application for $40,000 was successful--Hooray! The museum has now raised $100,500 from a variety of grant and other sources towards the whalery and preparation of the whale skeleton that will be the focal point of the displays.

All that's needed is a final $15,000 to make it happen.

Donations over $5 are eligible for tax credit refunds of 33.3%, and all donations of $1,000 or more are eligible to be recorded on a permanent donors' board inside the whalery.
