A beautiful heart in failure ❤️ A trusted place for family, friends and the wider community to donate and provide support for Deb.
Rotorua, Bay Of Plenty
This give a little page is for those that wish to contribute towards the necessities for Debbie and her family.
Deb is 49 years old, and a very loving and devoted mum of three. She shares her spare time with large groups of children, teaching them Zen Do kai martial arts.
Sadly, Deb was recently diagnosed with heart failure, functioning only at 36%. The cardiologist’s plan is to manage her illness with medication. Hopefully this will help prevent further deterioration. Deb is in the trial stages with her medication and is taking nine different meds a day, as you can imagine this also puts undue stress on her kidney's. Breakthrough chest pain and severe tiredness is a constant battle. Fortnightly check ups at the heart failure clinic will determine whether she needs additional medications which are not government funded. If the clinic assessment determines her meds aren't working, Deb will be a heart transplant candidate. Prior to discovering this shocking news, Deb made plans to start some necessary home repairs, but after being hospitalised and long periods away from work, she's had to put that money towards the day to day costs of living for her and her family. Deb's weekly wage is a necessity, but so is rest. Debbie is extremely humble and does not ask for help even when it's needed, yet she is always the first to give help and support to anyone, anyway she can. If you can find a place in your heart to help support our girl, a little help goes such a long way ❤️
Debbie is my life long best friend, we have grown up together and raised our children together, we have been there for each other through all the good times and the bad times.
To provide support for Deb and her family where needed, necessary home repairs, possible unfunded medication (sglt-2), and to take the pressure off those days when Debbie is too unwell to manage going to work.
New Update - Deb’s Health & Wellbeing 9 August 2024
The past couple of months have been a whirlwind of emotions, for both Deb and her family. Nico is only 12 years old and Deb’s youngest, processing mums diagnosis and what that potentially means for him, Callum and Sjaani’s futures has been a lot for the family to work through, including her husband Chris. Regular appointments at the Heart Failure clinic has meant medication increases whilst trying to manage her very low blood pressure due to this complication, this has meant she is unable to take the recommended dosages of several of her medications, meaning a much slower rate of improvement. The cardiac nurse requested an acute 24hr halter monitor last week following an appointment Deb had due to her ectopic heartbeats, the results are still pending. Meanwhile, Deb has returned to teaching her beloved martial arts kids with much support from the other instructors as she tires very easily. This gives her focus and helps her to come to terms with the limitations of her diagnosis, and what that means to her own martial arts journey after ten years of practice.
Recently one of the families that Deb teaches has nominated her for the Kiwibank NZ Local Hero award due to her dedication and commitment above her own health complications.
