A camera for Skatty

A new camera for taking photo's of Skatty, a much loved Maine Coon cat is the primary purpose of this fund raising effort. Our camera is very old and of low resolution (only 8 mega pixels), is slow to focus and has very poor low light performance. It also only has a 3 times telephoto lens.

Taking photo's of cats can be tricky, you need fast autofocus and fast start up. I cannot tell you how many photos have been lost due to the camera still starting up but Skatty has moved on or changed position. Also many of my best photos occur at long distance and low light. Cats to not enjoy camera's thrust into their faces and tend to turn away from the camera if you are too close. Best photo's are taken when you are a few meters away from the subject.

I will be looking for a relatively compact camera (so that it is always handy) that meets the above requirements. As cameras are still rapidly improving, I'll wait until we have sufficient funds to decide what model & make. In the meanwhile, I'll continue to research.
