Self-less caregiver of 10 years now faces his own medical emergency. Help him to get through and continue to care for his seriously ill wife
Taupo, Waikato
For over a decade, Hugh has been the pillar of strength for his wife as she valiantly battled significant health issues including cancer. Working tirelessly, he poured every ounce of his being and every hard-earned dollar into ensuring she received the care and treatment needed to keep fighting.
Through it all, their love never wavered. Hugh is her rock, her tireless caregiver, advocate and protector. No sacrifice was too great as long as it gave her another day. But who could have imagined that he would be battling his own life-threatening disease?
Recently while preparing for work Hugh, now 69, collapsed. Scans revealed a 7cm cancerous tumor, requiring urgent surgery. He also presented with septicemia with doctors uncertain whether he would survive the night and since has had a second blood infection which threatened to delay his surgery. He's now too weak to work and with every resource depleted for his wife's care and no income for the foreseeable future they are out of options.
Please help give this real-life care hero the chance to beat his own cancer and survive for his beloved wife. After everything they've been through, they deserve to keep fighting together!
Every donation will go directly to cover medical and living expenses, allowing him to complete his treatment, regain his strength and hopefully return to work to keep for his wife as he has done all these years. Don't let this real-life love story end in tragedy - help them write their next chapter.
Hugh and his wife are friends of over 5 years and just the loveliest people. Ever since I've known them Hugh's wife has been battling cancer with expensive treatments. Hugh has worked tirelessly to support despite massive challenges. Inspirational people.
This couple have had no income for 6 weeks and rely on the kindness of family to survive. Funds will go to meet incidental medical bills, provide medication to preserve life and essential living expenses until Hugh can resume work.
Hugh's Journey 3 May 2024
Hi everyone, so Hugh had his surgery on the 29th to remove the tumour.
Unfortunately the surgery had complications, and ended up being a 9hr process. He had extensive bleeding needing multiple units of blood, ultimately they needed to remove his spleen. You can live without a spleen but it does leave you with lifelong issues and you are extremely prone to blood infections etc.
Post- Op he became acute with pneumonia settling in his left lung, and a new blood infection. He is currently having scan number 2 in as many days with a decision needing to be made about whether to take him back to theatre. There is also a pooling of pancreatic juices that needs to be addressed if there is a perforation in his pancreas.
We are so grateful for all of the prayer warriors.
Thank you so much for your support, and good wishes 🙏
