    Hi there

Thank you again for your support. I have loved this experience and it’s taught me a huge amount.

I raced yesterday against the best in the world. I ended up 38th. I was hoping for a slightly better result but I absolutely gave it everything I had on the day. There is a lot to be grateful for.

The world stage in cycling, like most elite sport, is incredibly hard. At the end of the day, to be 38th in the world is something I’m proud of. I know I have more in me and my goal now is to build on this experience.

I’m heading home in a few days. It’ll be time to take a short rest before getting back into a busy summer of racing and making plans for next year, which I’m hoping will include a longer stint in Europe. This is definitely where NZ riders need to base ourselves to get the intensity of training and competition we need to be competitive at this level. The small margins we gain from racing against these top end guys, consistently, add up over the distances we race.

I have felt blessed to have the support I’ve had. It’s been tough, it’s been fun, and it’s been a massively positive experience and one that I’ll never forget.

    Thank you again.

    Elliot

Firstly, thank you so much for your amazing support. I feel so humbled by your generosity.

I’ve been in Glasgow a week and today go in to camp with other NZ athletes. The atmosphere is unreal. I am pleased to be entering the final stretch now, focusing my nutrition, rest and final preparations.

The world championships covers road, track, BMX and mountain biking across several venues. Mum and Nicholas are here, which is great. We have been soaking up the atmosphere and I’ve been using the time to continue my build up.

I’m racing the individual time trial on 11 August. The time trial is often referred to as “the race of truth” in cycling. That’s because it’s just each rider, on the road alone, racing against the clock. The objective is to get as much power out as possibly whilst remaining as aerodynamic as I can. This is helped by the skinsuit I wear, plus riding my specific time trial bike that supports a more aerodynamic riding position.

Our course is 22.8km and finishes up a gnarly, cobbled climb at Stirling Castle.

Thank you again for supporting my dream. I feel privileged to be here, and am genuinely boosted by your support.

    Elliot
