Raising funds to support a devoted father and colleague after the tragic loss of his children while he is working overseas.
Queenstown, Otago
The New Zealand Careers team are raising funds to support one of our employees and his family following an unimaginable tragedy. Our employee Rholan Meras who currently works in Queenstown lost his 10 year old twin daughters over the weekend. While travelling by boat to another island, the vessel encountered severe winds and capsized.
Tragically, his Althea and Andrea were involved in the incident. One child has been confirmed deceased, and the other remains missing.
At the time of this tragedy, our colleague is in New Zealand on a work visa, far from home and from his remaining family and support network. He is facing this devastating loss while navigating the emotional, practical, and financial challenges of being overseas during a family emergency.
No parent should ever have to endure such heartbreak. During this incredibly difficult time, the family is experiencing overwhelming grief, along with financial pressures relating to emergency response efforts, travel, and day‑to‑day support.
We are asking for any contribution, no matter how small, to help ease some of this burden and allow the family to focus on grieving, healing, and being together.
All funds raised will go directly to supporting him and his family during this devastating time.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support.
He’s part of our work family, and I’m helping raise funds to support him during this time.
Funds raised will help support travel costs, funeral‑related expenses, and essential living needs as he returns home to the Philippines during this incredibly difficult time.
Loss of twin daughters due to drowning in the Philippines 13 April 2026
These funds would help cover flights for Rholan to get to the Philippines, sort things for the funeral of the twin daughters and help the family during such a tragic time.
