Donations to support a community garden memorial in honour of Damo
Tawa, Wellington
On Monday 3 October Damo passed away unexpectedly and we lost a much loved husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. We thought we had many more years with him and are devastated by his passing. He was a wonderful and caring person, thoughtful and generous, and will be deeply missed.
Damo loved gardening. We always knew where he was, because if he wasn't in the house, he was outside working in the garden. He would often show us the latest vegetables growing or newest flower to have popped up.
He helped his daughters in the garden, including building a vegetable box. When he was out walking in the neighbourhood he was always taking photos of the flowers he saw.
Having recently retired, Damo thought a nice way to support the community would be to volunteer to help the neighbourhood create a community garden. We believe a meaningful way to remember Damo is to put money towards a memorial for him that is connected to the local community garden (in lieu of flowers to the family). The donations could for example go towards a new vegetable box or a donation of fruit trees. We think he would have loved this idea, and also a way for his grandchildren to remember him when out in the community.

We will work with the community garden on what is most beneficial with the donated money. This could be vege boxes, fruit trees or something else Damo would have loved.
