Help Mum of 2 make life/Christmas easier after infection nearly took her hand.
Gulf Harbour, Whangaparaoa
My name is Amy, I’m a 32 year old mum of 2 young girls. I’m never usually one to ask for help but i have found myself in the most difficult time of my life, and only days away from Christmas.
On Monday 15th December I got a small cut on my thumb, nothing unusual, I didn’t even think anything of it at the time. Tuesday it started to hurt but I assumed it was the placement of the cut. Come Wednesday my thumb began to swell which indicated to me I had an infection.
I made a doctors appointment that morning, they gave me some antibiotics, a sling & sent me home. That evening I was in A&E in the worst pain of my life. The infection was rapidly spreading down my arm through my tendons. I was told if I didn’t get surgery - I’d lose my hand.
Fast forward to today (Monday 22nd December) I haven’t left the hospital & I had a 2nd surgery this morning.
My husband quit his job this morning so he is able to care for our girls. This time of year is tough enough & I can only hope I get to spend Christmas Day with my family.
Any help is greatly appreciated while we navigate this new weird normal. I hope this can also spread awareness that infections are very serious & can spread so fast. Always trust your gut!
