Please donate to help Lauren, now paralysed from the breast down, ride her horse again.
Pukekohe, Auckland
March 29th, I suffered an horrific horse riding accident riding at my 3rd ever hunt with my local hunt. The weather was great; the people are a caring, fun community that I wanted to become a part of.
But instead, Dash lost a shoe over a wire jump, then stumbled, hard. My C2 vertebrae broke as I landed on the back of my head and I saw Dash drop to one knee. Just as I flattened to the ground he rolled onto me - an immense weight. I knew instantly that I could not move my legs. His weight had caused dislocation of T3-4, bent my spine and fractured 4 ribs.
Now I am a paraplegic with a passion to continue riding for physical and mental health reasons. I have discovered some great NZ role models. I would greatly appreciate any help towards achieving my goal of getting back on my horse who I have had since he was six months old.
I'm now out of the Auckland spinal unit and home. I still have a broken neck, but what keeps me motivated and working to heal, is the idea of one day being able to get back on my horse. My understanding is that ACC will not help to fund the type of gear I will need to get back in the saddle again. By donating to my givealittle pageyou will help me to raise the money I will need towards a modified disability saddle and a riding hoist to attach to my horse float. I plan to go to the RDA as soon as I'm doctor cleared to learn how to ride as a disabled rider and also how to train my horse to accept me on his back as a disabled rider. Thanks for reading!
All funds raised will go towards:
A Special Saddle for paraplegic riders who need trunk support to sit upright.
A hoist attached to the horse float.
Any other gear/aids that will help keep Lauren as safe around her horse as possible.
Farm trek 16 April 2026
This is a reel from when Rachel first took me for a ride around the Kyd farm. It's absolutely stunning high country riding and is one of the hunt properties used by Pakuranga hunt. I am blessed that she and Malcolm Kyd are opening it up to horse riders as a fundraising trek for me on the 11th May. Please come if you can! A grand time to socialise with other riders and get some more farm riding in before winter hits.
