A Man & His Dog

This is a story about a job loss due to closure & a man & his dog with no home or safe, warm shelter. Living & sleeping outdoors, exposed to all the elements, while patiently waiting on a list for government housing for the past 2 years.

A promise & commitment made by a man to his dog & best friend to stay together, which has made his housing situation lengthy & limited unless they part ways.

Some might say that you can't help them all, but I say you CAN help, even if it's just one & so, this is now my duty & my honor to see that this man who has never asked me for anything (I give what I can) & his best friend have warmth, safety, security & somewhere to call home this coming winter, that my whānau & everyone I know are so fortunate to already have.

This is about community, about humanity, about acknowledgment, about compassion, about kindness & about doing something small but life-changing for another human being, without personal benefit or gain.

With winter approaching, there is some urgency & so I am reaching out to you as a friend, as a neighbour, as a colleague, as family, as a Kūki ʻĀirani/New Zealander.

We know times have been tough for most, but unfortunately, much tougher for others & so if you are in a position to contribute big or small, to help better this humble man & his dog's life together, we as a whānau will be eternally grateful.
