Nikki and Arani are running the Queenstown (Nov 16th) marathon for Lachie Love's bucket list as Lach has an agressive brain tumour.
Otago
Lachie Love is 9, he has an agressive brain tumour called a diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) that is incredibly difficult to treat as it’s in the brain stem, it was diagnosed in December 2022. Kids are usually given a life expectancy of 9 months post diagnosis. Lachie has unexpectedly outlived this so we want to raise some funds to help Lach have some awesome bucket list experiences and create some memories with his family, Liesje, Andy and younger bro Harry.
Who we are and why we're doing this.
Kia ora we’re Nikki and Arani, friends from Dunedin. We are running the Queenstown Marathon on the 16th of November.
Nikki: Liesje, Lachies mum is my bestie, we met in Hawkes Bay a couple of decades ago and cope with life with dark humour. Lachie and my son Finn are the same age. My twins and Harry are the same age. The page is not entirely altrustic, I want to prove to myself I can do a marathon just once. I also have ADHD and need external accountability to help me achieve goals, so having to front up and give updates with help!
Please donate, we will keep you posted on the bucket list plans and adventures and our training and progress, red sweaty running faces and all. Lach is a super star, he has outlived the 9 months timeframe that children usually live post diagnosis. I’d love to be able to help find a trip/ concert of his choosing!
Lachies Mum Liesje and Nikki have been close friends for decades, Lachie and Nikki's son Finn are the same age and besties.
The money will go to bucket list adventures of the family's choosing, like travel/ a concert or outings of Lachs choosing, equipment and day to day expenses to cover the support he needs.
This is our other Givealittle page for the on-going costs for his treatment https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/lachie-needs-your-help
Training is all go! 24 April 2024
Nikki here, I’m not sure my Strava app knows what’s hit it. Literally months or possibly a year of virtually no runs or other similar activity and then I’ve done 4 runs and 3 bike rides in the last week or so! The motivation has FINALLY kicked in. This is thanks to everyone’s support and donations! External accountability for the win!
The marathon is for Lachie and it is for me. Last year I had a head injury and was processing a late diagnosis of ADHD. The sh*t show of last year impacted my mental health in a significant way. I wouldn’t have fathomed doing a marathon last year. I know I can do this, I have good people cheering me on and good friends doing it too. Thanks again, will keep you posted!
