Frank and I did it, we did the Queenstown 1/2 marathon! We ran and walked and did it in 3 hours 4 minutes. The course was beautiful and weather perfect. Thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart for donating for Lachie and his family. I am so very grateful to all of you.

The givealittle page will be open for donations until the end of the month so please share it for us so we can reach our fundraising goal.

Again, thank you, I couldn’t have done it without you all.

  • Updates and the marathon

      15 November 2024
    Posted by: Liesje Love

Tomorrow is the big day that Nikki and Frank take on the Queenstown Marathon! They're both wearing shirts that have Lachie's photo on them and a QR code to this page so if you see them, make sure you say hi!

We can't thank everyone enough for the support to date! The trip to Melbourne was AMAZING and Lachie had a great time. Now we're thinking about our next adventure and also renovating the bathroom so that Lachie can shower easier (at the moment he has to be lifted into and out of the bath (which is hard at almost 100kg!).

Please feel free to share this page as a last push - whilst we also extremely, extremely appreciative and overwhelmed by the support, we also think it's great for Nikki and Frank to see the support you have given us (and their efforts fundraising) too.

  • Update about me- a change of plan.

      20 October 2024
    Main image

Kia ora team, you may have noticed there has not been many updates about my #marathonforlachie training.

The reason being is that I’ve had a rough run of health recently. I had a rare prescription medication reaction that has affected me significantly and has taken a toll on my body.

I was hopeful I’d be ok to do the full marathon but I have had medical professionals advise against it as it could put me at more risk.

Unfortunately, this means I have to change my entry in the Queenstown Marathon from a full to a half marathon.

I am so disappointed. In order to honour the attempt to do a full marathon for Lachie, Frank my husband, is stepping in to do the half marathon with me and we will make it a team effort. Even the half comes with some risk, but we are putting a plan in place to help manage this.

For those of you who have known about what I’ve been through and have been supporting me, and checking in, I can’t thank you enough.

If anyone has objections please let me know

Thank you for your donations, currently Lachie is in Rotorua on a bucket list trip, heading out for adventures. All of the donations make such a difference to the family and help make memories.

  • Epic Melbourne trip AND Months to go to the Marathon!

      15 July 2024

Hey friends, thanks again for the extraordinary support. Lachie and his family had an epic time. I’ll post pics on the page shortly. The mahi isn’t done though. The Loves have come back and life does go on. The bills are still coming in. Erin and I are aiming to hit $15’000 before our races. Even more if we can. Please share the page or load the widget for us!

I’ve had some extreme health issues caused by medication side effects, that I haven’t talked about here but I’ve gotten to the bottom of it and am med free I’ve been finally cleared to run properly. I’m feeling good.

Erin is training hard too. We will keep you posted! Thank you again. ❤️💪🏼🏃‍♀️

  • Melbourne! And new goal of $15000

      1 July 2024
    Main image

Kia ora whānau, we’ve covered travel costs but the $10000 was a fair bit short of covering all the trip costs including the fun adventures.

I want to cover the whole trip if we can so I have raised the goal to keep up the money coming in for Lachie.

Please can you send the link around your networks or you can print a QR code out or send an email to your friends/ post on social media to help us.

Lachie is having the best time, he’s been swimming to see the Harry Potter night exhibition, and is being more mobile which is so amazing!!

  • Wow whānau! The power of the collective!!

      12 June 2024

I cannot get over the response! Well I can because humans always want to help if they can, and I’m so hopeful we can cover a fair bit of the trip for the Loves! I met Liesje, Lachies mum a couple of decades ago and I cried at her the first time we met, so I went over to her course the next day to say sorry for crying and she asked me how I was, so of course I cried again hahaha.

But we became whānau then. We still laugh about that day. Liesje has been there for me solidly without a break and I her in varying ways of course because we love each other, but this is something I need to do for all of her family who have to cope with the worst shit ever. The nightmare, your child is sick and very sick.

I don’t mean to be dramatic but I will to make the point. Liesje has saved me a few times, I can’t save Lach (if I could that’s what I would be doing) but I can be there whole heartedly for Andy, Liesje, Harry and Lachie. They are my family and you are now all whānau too because you at all part of helping some of my most favourite people have a very cool trip.

There will be a huge amount of accessibility considerations with Lachies wheelchair so if anyone has any ideas of accessible fun stuff in Melbourne let us know!

Because WE HAVE BOOKED!! We are doing it! Thanks for you help trying to cover some of the cost of it all! I hope we can eventually cover all of it!

  • Aunty Erin joins in the Marathon for Lachie with the Whangamatā Half 28th Sept!

      31 May 2024
    Main image

    Hi

I am Lachie’s Aunty E and am very keen to join Nikki Fahy in her awesome effort to raise money for Lachie’s trip to Melbourne in July.

Lachie is the best big bro to Harry and a wonderful cuz to Nico – 6 and Willa – 4 (Uncle James and my two babes). Lachie is kind, thoughtful and so witty. We are grateful that he is still with us after 17 months of fighting this monster. I wish that there was more that could be done to improve his terminal prognosis. I wish we had infinite time with him. I wish Lachie, Liesje, Andy and Harry were not going through this unimaginable nightmare.

I would love to raise some funds for Lachie to have an amazing trip to Melbourne. We love him so much. He deserves to have as much fun as possible in the time he has left. The Love family deserve to make beautiful memories together.

I have signed up to the Whangamata Half Marathon on 28 September. I will be running my heart out for Lachie, and I will continue to fundraise up until then, with a particular focus this month in the lead up to Lachie’s trip. We are attempting to raise $10k before the end of June to cover the cost of the trip for Lachie and his family, so it’s not an additional financial burden or worry. Team Love already has so much on their plate.

Times are really tough out there for everyone at the moment. If you have $1 to contribute to Lachie’s trip of a lifetime, we would be so very grateful.

    Thank you x

Liesje and his fam are thinking Melbourne! So please can you share the fundraiser far and wide so we can raise enough funds to cover as much of the trip as we can!!

  • Te Araroa Virtual Challenge and a new team mate!!

      8 May 2024
    Main image

Nikki here! A week of annual leave a couple of weeks ago, I got heaps of training in, but this week and last has been harder to find or make time to run! My life is always very busy so I need to get a bit more strategic with getting runs in. Life will keep happening, stuff will always crop up but I need to get out for runs more.

So to do this and manage my ADHD brain I’ve signed up to the Te Araroa 100mile virtual challenge!

And I’ve very easily convinced my friend Charly to run too, Charly will do either the half or the full depending on the situation closer to the time as she is doing a PhD too!

Arani and I hope to get out for a weekend run together!

If you want to know more you can follow me on Instagram: @a_marathon_for_lachie_love

    And please share the page!

Lachie’s MRI is stable at the moment and he and his whānau are trucking on. Lachie makes me laugh on the regular, now he has my email address to send me iMessages I’m sure he will increase the laugh rate!

Thanks for the support it doesn’t go unnoticed!!

  • Training is all go!

      24 April 2024
    Main image

Nikki here, I’m not sure my Strava app knows what’s hit it. Literally months or possibly a year of virtually no runs or other similar activity and then I’ve done 4 runs and 3 bike rides in the last week or so! The motivation has FINALLY kicked in. This is thanks to everyone’s support and donations! External accountability for the win!

The marathon is for Lachie and it is for me. Last year I had a head injury and was processing a late diagnosis of ADHD. The sh*t show of last year impacted my mental health in a significant way. I wouldn’t have fathomed doing a marathon last year. I know I can do this, I have good people cheering me on and good friends doing it too. Thanks again, will keep you posted!

  • Training has started! (And an enormous thank you!)

Nikki here! I was really procrastinating going on my first actually training run, I think it was knowing once I did that, that was it my life would be 50% running from then on!

But L it’s about Lach not me so I phoned a friend.

Arani and I did our first run by the Otago Harbour. 4kms on total. I’m unfit so it was slow and steady.

It was more of a diagnostics run for me, basically a what hurts and how unfit am I run 😂

I was absolutely buzzing after and unsure why I hadn’t been sooner! Might be the overwhelming idea I’ve signed up for a marathon 🙄

I need to say a huge thank you, I am overwhelmed by the support and donations already! Lachie is already thinking about what big thing he wants to do. If only we can make Eminem tour like he’s rumoured to do! The money will go to a family trip for the Loves. Will keep you posted!

I’ve set up an Instagram page for this marathon journey to keep me accountable, to post updates and raise awareness of DIPG, the rumour Lachie has. You can follow it here https://www.instagram.com/a_marathon_for_lachie_love?igsh=MXJqOHo3cHJqeHEyaA%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
