A Mobility Van For Tana Heke

I would like to introduce you to Tana Heke. Tana is a typical 8 year old boy who loves to do typical things most 8 year old boys do like riding a bike, running in his school cross country, swimming, playing with his 3 brothers and friends and also attending family outings, there is only one thing that hinders all the above and that is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a severe type of muscular dystrophy. The symptom of muscle weakness usually begins around the age of four in boys and worsens quickly. Typically muscle loss occurs first in the upper legs and pelvis followed by those of the upper arms, this will mean that Tana will be bound to a power wheelchair, he is at a stage where he is using a power chair for school. This chair will require a specialised mobility van with a hoist to be able to transport Tana and his brothers and family around and due to the current process they are not eligible for any government or funding help. So this is why we have organised this page we would like to get Tana and his family a mobility van so that family outings are easier and mainly so that Tana can be transported more importantly he can be transported safely.
