Please support my friend, Karen as she faces the hardest time of her life, with her only son involved in a critical motorbike accident.
Auckland
Ahmet Akar had just celebrated his 21st birthday, when on the evening of the 15th April, his motorcycle collided with a lamp post, resulting in him being rushed to Auckland City Hospital in critical condition.
I have started this Givealittle Page in support of Ahmet's incredible mother, Karen. She is one of the most humble and loving people you would ever meet, and to see her navigate this unthinkable situation as a single mother, involving her only child, just breaks my heart.
Ahmet spent a substantial amount of time in the intensive care unit, before moving to the high dependancy unit and is now staying at the ABI rehabilitation centre, specialising in brain injuries. The duration of Ahmet's stay in this facility is unknown at this stage, but his journey will certainly be a marathon not a sprint.
Throughout this entire ordeal, Karen has mustered incredible emotional strength. She has had to cut her hours down to part-time and spends every other waking moment with her son. Karen's dedication to Ahmet and his recovery is truely admirable.
Unfortunately, the financial reality of the situation has set in and with Karen unable to increase her hours anytime soon, I am asking the community for their support, something Karen would find to difficult to ask herself.
Any contribution, no matter how big or small, would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you so much in advance for taking the time to read about Ahmet and Karen's story.
Karen is one of my dearest friends and I want to support her and her son during this difficult time.
Rent support, household expenses, travel costs to and from the rehab, reduced working hours, any additional time off work required, any medical fees incurred that are not covered, and unforeseen future costs related to the accident and recovery.
