A Plea for My Best Friend: Knight’s Journey to Mobility.
Auckland
Two years ago, I brought home my dream dog Knight, a Black German Shepherd, after months of searching for the right breeder and the healthiest bloodlines. From the moment I picked him up, he became so much more than just a dog. He became my shadow, my best friend
Now, at only two years old, Knight has been diagnosed with severe elbow dysplasia. It is heartbreaking to watch such a young dog, who should have his whole life ahead of him, already facing pain and losing the freedom to run and play
We are seeking specialist care at Massey University in Palmerston North to give him the best possible chance. Knight is facing specialist consultations, major treatment, follow-up surgeries, future appointments, and ongoing travel from Auckland
I am a frontline police officer, and I feel proud to serve and protect my community every day. But the reality is that I am still only at the beginning of my career, and as much as I want to give Knight everything he needs, these costs are simply more than I can manage. I tried to be responsible by taking out pet insurance, but because of a 180-day waiting period, we missed coverage by just 30 days
Knight is family. At home, his little best friend Tyson, our Jack Russell, adores him. They are inseparable. The thought of Knight losing the ability to run, play, and enjoy life beside Tyson is heartbreaking
Every donation, no matter how small, will give Knight a chance at a life with less pain and more time with his best friends.
The Medical Costs
The initial estimate from Massey University is between $5,000 – $5,500 per surgery. This covers:
Specialist Orthopedic Consultation, Surgery: Arthroscopy and removal of the ununited anconeal process (UAP) and Recovery for three days.
