Helping a beloved Pug get the help he needs.
Christchurch, Canterbury
After a busy day out Gilbert came home and started declining rapidly. He wouldn't eat (not even his favourite food, a Cheese Burger) and he stopped responding to his family. At 2.30am Gilbert declined ever further, his eyes were darting in different directions and he was unable to stand so his Mum took him directly to the After Hours Vet.
After many wrong diagnosis the After Hours team decided Gilbert needed specialist care as they weren't confident in their final diagnosis of a ear infection and so we were referred to a new vet. We spent 4 long hours waiting as Gilbert struggled and suffered for our appointment to meet the Specialist who was very concerned and believed there was a tumour in his ear canal.
We left Gilby at the vet to run more tests and they made a plan to keep Gilbert overnight under sedation and oxygen to keep him calm as they flush out the infection with antibiotics. They diagnosed him with Middle Ear Disease which is keeping him disoriented and uncomfortable.
He has responded well to the treatment but they say there is a long road ahead of him to fully recover, we are looking at 3 months of constant vet visits and testing to make sure Gilbert gets back to 100%.
As you can imagine this has accrued large vet bills which will continue over coming months. His Mum is a Youth Pastor who is struggling to come up with the money needed. As Gilbert is a super loved member of the Youth Groups she runs we want to support her to make sure he gets the help he needs.
