Helping Riley reach her long term goal of buying a Dana Diabecare Insulin Pump
Taranaki
When life gives you lemons you usually make lemonade.. When life gives you type 1 diabetes everyday life can become a lemon.
My name is Riley, my beautiful sister has set up this give a little page to help me accomplish my goal of purchasing a Dana insulin pump so I can gain tighter control of my blood sugars by using a closed looped system. This requires the Dana pump and a dexcom CGM (continuous glucose monitor).
What this loop does it uses the blood sugar reading sent to the pump via a 'bridge' so it can accurately administer micro doses of insulin to keep blood sugars in extremely tight control (basically mimicking how the pancreas would work). Having this pump will help to prevent major medical event in the future which come attributed to higher blood sugar control, leaky kidney, eye problems, neuropathy and a list of other things.
The new zealand public system funds products that are sub par that their users cannot trust, like the currently funded caresense dual blood sugar machine. They also only fund 2 types of pumps in new Zealand and yes the preform a job to an extent they do not have the capability to close loop which in turn gives even better control and quality of life.
This technology will help in my day to day life as diabetes can take a back seat J don't have to worry about low blood sugars when I'm home alone with my 2 children, as alot of people know hypoglycaemia can cause you to fall into a diabetic coma when blood sugars drop dramatically.
I would love to be able to live my life with out fear and become the best version of myself for my children.
