Supporting David and Lynda at this life changing and challenging time with ongoing medical costs, travel and support.
Canterbury
In February 2020 after a CT scan, David and Lynda had their lives turned upside down and faced lows they’d never been to before. David, an amazing husband, Dad and Pop, was diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer, Glioblastoma Multiforme. In the following weeks and months, David had brain surgery, medical treatments and specialist appointments all navigated through the constraints of Covid. The next and only medical option for David is extremely expensive, non Government funded and in Auckland with fortnightly trips scheduled. Medical insurance will only cover the administration of the treatment.
Carrying this incredible couple emotionally is a beautiful network of family and friends. Their support continues to be invaluable. When a disease like this strikes, every area of life feels the strain. We want to help alleviate some of the financial pressures as the expense of dealing with a terminal illness comes to take over ones strength and joy. Your contribution regardless of its size would be gratefully received.
David and Lynda are extremely humbled and overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of people who have offered support, sent messages, made meals and prayed. There simply are no words to express the gratitude felt by them and their family as they support one another in the most difficult of times.
I'm raising funds for my Grandad
David and Lynda will use all funds to assist in the financial cost of this first round of non Government funded treatment and travel. Anything raised beyond will cover loss of income and provide some choices during a time when there are very few.
From Lynda 17 October 2020
David and I have had our lives changed dramatically. I struggle to even express the depth of what we walk through each day. And while these days have been dark, light has come in the form of beautiful, caring, generous people who are family, friends and even strangers. We are humbled beyond words and strengthened by the support we have around us.
If GBM wasn’t enough to deal with, David has spent the past 3 weeks in hospital with Pancreatitis. It is incredibly painful for him and hard to get that pain under control. The family and I are with him almost all the time as the brain tumors have made processing information and communication difficult, as well as short term memory loss. David is tough and is doing all he can to stay strong; but it’s not always easy. His will to live life for me and his family is what keeps him going and what keeps us pushing through day and night.
Travel to Auckland for treatment has also been physically, mentally and emotionally challenging for us but particularly David. The pancreatitis caused him a lot of pain but we had no idea that this was the issue 6 weeks ago. We are in awe as to how he even managed to get there. His oncologist postponed the last two treatments due to his body needing to heal from pancreatitis.
We won’t be giving up any time soon. We have too many things to live for; our family, our future and each other. We do want to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to everyone who has financially supported, prayed, shared this page, sent texts of encouragement, flowers, emails and food! You have all carried us in these very hard times. Thank you all so much.
Love Lynda
