We want to give something back to all our disabled people in our beautiful community!
Northland
Alex is 9 years old with a rare genetic disorder that leaves him in a wheelchair. He loves swinging as he may always have the intellectual disability of a child, so this would be something he can enjoy for the rest of his life. But as he is getting too big to lift now and almost all the playgrounds lack something for him to use, having a wheelchair swing would be incredible as all he wants is to join in on the fun like other kids do, but instead he ends up watching from the sidelines.
Having a wheelchair swing would also welcome other visitors to the area, boosting the local businesses.
The beauty of this swing is elderly people can also use it too! If we receive any extra funds we will donate to the schools in our area.
Kylee Alex mum and I will act as an advocate for inclusive facilities in our community
To install and maintain an inclusive wheelchair swing in a location yet to be defined with the Whangarei District Council. If things don't go to plan, we can try for a swing that is a lower cost and/or donate funds to the local schools special needs departments for resources.
