Fundraising to access a suite of alternative therapies to support Elijahs' growth spiritually, cognitively and physically
Auckland
Elijah was born at 24 weeks premature, despite this sudden arrival he defied all expectations by developing into a strong healthy 8-year-old.
However, the injuries his brain endured by his early arrival has meant that Elijah struggles to make sense of the world as you and I know it.
There are moments of gold that makes all those that support Elijah think that perhaps with some intensive targeted therapy, Elijah might develop some neuro pathways that will support him to join the dots... everyone agrees that unless we try, we will never know if this is the key to unlocking Elijah's world. Unfortunately, Elijah's current therapies are funded via the community, and they do not have the capacity within their contracts to provide more than what he currently receives.
We met Elijah at 3 months old, and he came to live with us as a part of our whanau... I feel we have been called to provide Elijah with the best chance possible to reach his full potential...
The alternative therapy we will be accessing is through the Centre of Movement (currently only available in Christchurch and Rotorua in New Zealand), they are in the process of tailor making a program to suit Elijah's complex needs - the therapy will go to pay for the program itself and contribute to the accommodation required for Elijah and I to live in Rotorua. Here Elijah will receive 3 -5 hrs a day of therapy over a 3-week period.
I'm Elijah's Mum, I met him when he was 3 months old when he came to live with us and we now have permanency which means he will always have a home with us

5 Weeks Post Therapy 1 March 2026
On the 3rd January we headed to Rotorua where we stayed for 3 weeks (apart from a couple of sneaky trips home to reset) and Elijah completed 51 hours of Physio, Occupational and Exercise Physiology therapy.
I'm not going to lie, that first week was pretty rough but then Elijah found his groove, he started to trust the team and engaged in the therapy being provided.
5 weeks post therapy, and we are back into our normal routine, Elijah is back at school and this is where we have noticed the most significant change, he's settled into his new class, loves his new teacher, staying in class 95% of the time. He works hard at learning all day and is coming home appropriately fatigued rather than completely dysregulated.
We attended his Individual Education Planning at school last week - something we have to do twice a year to retain funding... I usually dread them because for the last 3 years we have just rolled the same goals over and over because they were not achieved... this year we have 3 pages full of progress and were able to set some new goals and extend ones already in place.
Don't get me wrong Elijah is still full of energy, survives on very little sleep or food and can become quite dysregulated when there is anything out of the norm... but there is definitely progress - so much so, I have just booked us into a 1 week top up with the Centre of Movement in June, but I did want to pause and just say thank you... your support meant the world to us both <3
