A Young Soldier in Ukraine

In September 2022, I visited a family in Bucha, the Kyiv suburb terrorised by the invading Russian army in March that year. The Havryliuk family, of grandmother Olga, her daughter Iryna and son Yuri. While Yuri was successfully fighting the Russians, his father (Iryna's husband) and two uncles were murdered in their home in Bucha. I visited again this month (June 2023).

In 2 weeks, Yuri joins his battalion in Ukraine's east and needs two items which aren't supplied by Ukraine's army: a helmet with special headphones and a night vision device. Both will help him to stay as safe as possible in a war zone. Please contribute to this campaign.

Yuri, his mother Iryna and grandmother Olga, who have been profiled in the international media, have become dear friends in Ukraine.
Use of funds
The money will be spent on a special helmet, equipped with head phones for communications and a night vision device.

Yurii is in training 30 October 2023
Yurii was selected for special forces training and now he's ready to return to the front. He tells me he'll be pleased to be back, because the uncertainty around his departure is more unsettling than being there. Sadly, he recently lost two close friends. His commitment to defending his country is undiminished.
