Fundraising for Aaron Blackledge to further his theatre directing training at East 15 University in London, UK.

Wellington

Aaron, a producer, designer and director in Wellington, New Zealand, has been accepted into East 15 University in London, UK, to study for an MFA in Theatre Directing.

Several years of Co-programming Fringe at the Gryphon (FatG) for the NZ Fringe Festival, and six years of directing/writing Kapitall Kids Theatre shows, saw the culmination of this experience in 2019 with Aaron directing the Wellington premiere of the sung through musical, Bare: A Pop Opera for Stagecraft Theatre. Bare had multiple sell out shows, high praise from audiences and two awards at the Wellington district theatre federation "Antoinettes".

Over the last year, particularly from what he learned directing Bare, he has been looking at where this now leads. He has a diverse set of theatre skills gained as a lighting and sound designer, a production manager and a producer, which has built a rich tapestry and vision allowing him to craft his directing style, through trial and error, repetition and observing how others work and adding the ideas he sees as positive strategies to his own Approach.

Aaron and I worked together on Bare and I found him to be a thoughtful and extremely supportive theatre director. His trust in me as a first time musical director allowed a positive creative space to develop a show that we were proud of.

I believe the MA/MFA Theatre Directing course would fit so well with Aaron’s broad skill set. To continue to work across multiple disciplines and theatrical styles but with the formal structured learning to solidify and hone these skills, building more confidence with the addition of also giving a greater theoretical foundation to the work he has already done.

I have created this fundraiser to assist with the rather substantial course fees so that Aaron is able to accelerate his learning and grow as a director and a theatre practitioner. The wide range of the MFA offers something that doesn't exist in New Zealand and the speed of learning and growth that is on offer through this course is exciting.

I I am happy to offer a vocal lesson to those that makes a donation of more than 50 dollars.

Please note:

1. That there are 5 slots available for a $50 vocal lesson

2. To claim a one hour vocal lesson please contact me on musikjo@gmail.com with a copy of the receipt.

3. The page will be updated once there are no lessons available. Please check here before donating.
